Who would have thought, when we started Flying Sharks 20 years ago, that the AquárIo do Porto Pim would become a very active recovery center for sea turtles, receiving, to this day, 170 (!) animals that were rescued both locally or in other countries, and then prepared to be released back at sea.
The last ones, Tarquin and Barnacle Bill, were released a year ago after being rescued and rehabilitated by the awesome crews of SEA LIFE Brighton and SEA LIFE Scarborough.

It was on a beautifully sunny September 1st, 2026, that Eden — from Sea Life Brighton —, Crush and Tiree — from Sea Life Weymouth— were taken by our staff together with our good friends and partners from those institutions to the open waters around Faial Island, after being under human care for almost a year. Now, much bigger and stronger than they were when our dear colleagues found them, these “Three Amigos” will have a second chance to thrive and, hopefully, have a long life ahead, having the whole World to explore.
Needless to say that our dear friends Victoria Goodier and Deva Edge, who took care of these turtles for almost a year, were extremely emotional the moment they swam freely once more, but, in the end, it’s the “mission accomplished” feeling that conquered their hearts.
Here’s a final word of praise to our friends from JCS Livestock, TAP Cargo, Menzies Aviation, and CEVA Logistics, who bend over backwards to make these operations run as smoothly as they possibly can.
