🛟 Brighton RNLI volunteers called out on Sunday evening

At 9.48pm on Sunday (4 October), Brighton RNLI's volunteer crew were tasked to an incident near King Alfred in Hove.

A man had returned to shore after being in the water, but there were concerns for his safety.

Sussex Police and the Coastguard Rescue Team were in attendance.

Our volunteer crew were stood down at 10.07pm, with no lifeboat launch required.

Thank you to all the emergency services involved.

We’re deeply saddened to hear of the passing of a much-loved and highly experienced crew member from Hastings RNLI, who had dedicated more than 20 years to the service.

Our thoughts are with their family, friends and all their colleagues at Hastings RNLI at this very sad time. ❤️

What an Open Day! 🛟❤️

A huge thank you to everyone who came down to Brighton Lifeboat Station yesterday for our Open Day.

It was fantastic to welcome so many people through the doors, show you around the station and our lifeboat, and give you a glimpse behind the scenes at Brighton RNLI.

And thanks to your incredible generosity, the day raised a whopping £2,189 for the RNLI! 🎉

Every pound helps our volunteer crew continue saving lives at sea, so thank you to everyone who donated, bought something from our shop or stalls, enjoyed some cake, and supported us on the day.

We were also delighted to receive some lovely thank you cards from Cllr Thérèse Mackay during the day.

Finally, a massive thank you to all our volunteers who gave their time to make the Open Day happen. We couldn't do it without you.

£2,189 raised and a brilliant day with our community. Thank you, Brighton! 🧡🌊

We’ve been incredibly grateful for all the kind messages and support for the RNLI this week.

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to get in touch or simply stand behind our lifesaving work. It means a lot to everyone who makes up our RNLI community.

For more than 200 years, RNLI volunteers have been saving lives at sea without judgement or preference.

Following unacceptable abuse directed at RNLI volunteers and staff, our Chief Executive Peter Sparkes has spoken about the misinformation being shared about our lifesaving work.

Our purpose is simple: to save lives at sea.

We’re incredibly proud of the thousands of volunteers who give their time to help others, whenever and wherever they are needed.

Please stand by our crews and help us challenge misinformation with the facts. 🧡

🌊 As summer comes to an end, so does another busy season for RNLI lifeguards on Brighton & Hove’s beaches.

This Sunday 6 September marks their final day of service for 2026, following an exceptionally busy and hot summer which saw hundreds of thousands of people head to the coast.

A huge thank you to the lifeguards who have worked tirelessly to keep people safe, carrying out rescues, providing first aid and casualty care, reuniting lost children with their families and sharing vital water safety advice. 👏💙

Heading to the coast after Sunday? Please take extra care without lifeguards on the beaches.

🛟 If you get into trouble in the water, remember Float to Live.

📱 If you see someone in difficulty, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.

Our volunteer lifeboat crew remains on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Stay safe and enjoy the coast.

We were tasked at 7.03pm on Tuesday (August 25) following reports of a person in the water near Palace Pier.

As the lifeboat arrived on scene, HM Coastguard confirmed the casualty had been recovered to shore and was being attended to by paramedics and Coastguard teams.

The lifeboat remained on scene while casualty assistance was confirmed before being stood down at 7.35pm.

Thank you to all emergency services involved.
