Across the South Downs, local volunteers have helped to protect rare chalk grassland, celebrate our heritage and care for the landscapes they love.

This short film shares their stories - showing how collective action can create big changes for wildlife, communities, future generations - and for the volunteers themselves.

After four years of partnership working across the eastern South Downs, the Changing Chalk programme is coming to a close — leaving a powerful legacy for landscapes, communities and heritage.

This short film Changing Chalk: From Vision to Legacy reflects on that journey, bringing together voices from across the partnership to share what’s been achieved, what’s been learned, and what comes next.

From restoring rare chalk grassland and improving access to nature, to supporting wellbeing, skills and creativity, Changing Chalk shows what’s possible when people come together with a shared purpose.

But this isn’t just a story about what’s been done. It’s about what continues — the relationships, knowledge and momentum that will carry this work forward.

Hear the voices, stories and achievements of the volunteers, participants and partners who made Changing Chalk what it is — they have helped to shape the future of the South Downs for all of us.
