Fossil Fuel Divestment campaigning in the expanded pensions megafund: public meeting on May 19th, 7.30pm
Opportunity to reduce your council’s support for wrecking the climate - join campaigners in targeting the expanded mega fund.
In April West Sussex County Council's pension fund will be joining with 17 others to expand the Border to Coast Pension Partnership megafund and effectively become the largest pension fund in the UK. Nationally, £16 billion is invested in fossil fuels by local council pension funds. Too few people realise our council tax is being used in this way and is harming our futures. (I know that you are not based in West Sussex but you may have followers who are.)
We are Border to Coast Pension Partnership (BCPP) Fossil Free. We are applying pressure to BCPP and to our local authority pension funds to divest from fossil fuels and invest in what is good for people and planet.
As Fossil Free campaigners we have a HUGE OPPORTUNITY to put pressure on the new megafund to stop investing in climate-wrecking companies and start being part of the solution rather than part of the problem. And with new legislation that may open opportunities to reducing/ending these toxic investments there has never been a better time to be involved. Divestment campaigning is easier than you might think! There is already a longstanding campaign with links to BCPP and lots of knowledge and resources.
We are looking for people in your area to join us. We’d love to have campaigners in all 18 areas.
