The Regency Society is the oldest amenity and conservation society in Brighton and Hove and a registered charity. www.regencysociety.org

In the wake of World War II, Britain was swept by a desire to modernise – and Brunswick Square, Brunswick Terrace and Adelaide Crescent were destined to be replaced by high-rise blocks until a group of passionate conservationists stepped in. They became the Regency Society of Brighton and Hove and helped to win the argument that we should treasure and preserve the best of our past. One of our roles is to campaign for equally high standards when new development is mooted.

An eagle-eyed RS member spotted these five peregrine falcons perched under the porch of No 1 Lewes Crescent in Kemp Town. Were they put there in 1825 when the house was completed or are they are more recent addition? RS would love to know.

Question: Which is more redundant: St Mark's Church in Kemp Town or a telephone engineer mending wires?

What did this man ever do for the Brighton Festival? A huge amount! Gavin Henderson was Director of the Festival for 10 years. He will be telling the story of the Festival on 16 Sept at 7pm in the Music Room of the Royal Pavilion.
