Get Food & Money Smart at the Community Kitchen Cookery Class

Brighton & Hove Food Partnership

Learn how to make budget-savvy recipes and become more confident managing money at this in-person cookery class in Brighton.

Explore ways to budget, track your spending, cut your costs and start saving, with tips from Money Advice Plus. As well as tips for cooking and meal planning to make sure you are eating well and packing nutrition into your meals.

You will learn:
* Cookery skills & ways to waste less food.
* Smart Cooking: Working in pairs we will learn how to meal plan and cook budget-savvy recipes that maximise nutrition while minimising costs.

We are proud today to publish the final evaluation report from our Gamble Aware project in partnership with RISE and Breakeven, 'The Penny Dropping'. which has been written by the brilliant Dr Nicola Sharp-Jeffs OBE.

The Gamble Aware project ran between 2024-26 and was the predecessor to our current gambling harms & economic abuse project. We are pleased to say that this important work continues with thanks to funding by the Network to Reduce Gambling Harms Great Britain.

The current project builds on the learning from the first phase, and it has allowed us to both continue the partnership with RISE and Breakeven but also expand the work to include Thrivin' together CIC - a space for women impacted by gambling.

We would like to thank everyone involved in this important work.

We're feeling very proud of our team at Money Advice Plus - over the last financial year, the total financial gains for all our clients is a fantastic £9,397,463 – an average of £2,790 for each client in the year.

We wanted to share some statistics from The Money Charity about rising costs and increased borrowing in the UK:

The average house price in the UK increased by 2.7% in the year to May 2026 to £271,000 🏠

The ‘effective’ interest rate (the actual interest paid) on newly drawn mortgages increased to 4.22% in May, up from 4.08% in April 💵

The average UK monthly private rent increased by 3.3%, to £1,388, in the year to June 2026 💶

In the year to May 2026, outstanding consumer credit increased by 7.0%, while outstanding levels of credit card borrowing increased by 7.3% 💷

The effective rate on interest-charging credit cards was 21.45% in May, up from 21.20% in April 💳

At Money Advice Plus we are proud to be working on this project, funded by the Network to Reduce Gambling Harms,, with RISE and Thrivin' together CIC. This important work will explore the links between gambling harms and relationships, and as part of this, between gambling harms and domestic abuse.

💫 Opportunity: Group Exploring Relationships, Domestic Abuse and Gambling Harms

We are seeking women who have gambled, or are an affected other of someone who gambles or has gambled to form a lived experience group. We want to find out about their experience of any support they received, or would have liked to receive. We are also seeking their input on the development of services and professional training.

We expect this to take the form of 1-1 interviews of 1-2 hours, and a focus group. We will decide with participants whether this is to be a one off engagement or more ongoing. We have a budget for compensation of your time.
