At Money Advice Plus we are proud to be working on this project, funded by the Network to Reduce Gambling Harms,, with RISE and Thrivin' together CIC. This important work will explore the links between gambling harms and relationships, and as part of this, between gambling harms and domestic abuse.

💫 Opportunity: Group Exploring Relationships, Domestic Abuse and Gambling Harms

We are seeking women who have gambled, or are an affected other of someone who gambles or has gambled to form a lived experience group. We want to find out about their experience of any support they received, or would have liked to receive. We are also seeking their input on the development of services and professional training.

We expect this to take the form of 1-1 interviews of 1-2 hours, and a focus group. We will decide with participants whether this is to be a one off engagement or more ongoing. We have a budget for compensation of your time.

If you feel that you have had these experiences and would like to be involved please email us [email protected]

CORRECTION: Please note that this project is funded by the Network to Reduce Gambling Harms https://www.networkrgh.co.uk/ not GREO.

This week it is Volunteers' Week, and at Money Advice Plus we'd like to say a massive thank you to our two volunteers, Mark and Lisa, who work with us on Fridays. We appreciate you so much, and we know our clients do too.

Are you a Money Advice Plus client who is neurodiverse - for example, are you on the autistic spectrum, have ADHD or dyslexia – and do you experience mental health challenges? At Money Advice Plus we want to make sure that our services, the support and advice we provide to you, reflect what you need. Especially for our clients who are more vulnerable than others.

We are organising a focus group, a small group of people getting together in a very supportive space, to talk about their experience of accessing Money Advice Plus. For example, we will ask people how their experience was of accessing our services and if there anything that Money Advice Plus can do better.

The focus group will take place here, at Money Advice Plus offices (Tisbury Road Offices, Hove Town Hall, Tisbury Road, Hove, BN3 3BQ) on Friday 19th of June, from 10:30am to 12:00noon, with a break in the middle. To say thank you, we will give participants a £20 shopping voucher.

Are you interested on attending the focus group, or do you have a question about it? Please let your case worker know or email Paolo at [email protected]

As part of we’re highlighting the hidden dangers of illegal lending.

Loan sharks often start by acting helpful - offering quick cash with no paperwork. But behind the friendly move is a dangerous game designed to trap people in debt.

At Money Advice Plus we can't believe it's May already, but April brought some good news that we wanted to share on a Friday afternoon 💫

Firstly, in April, the government announced important changes to make council tax debt collection less aggressive ✔️ It used to be the case that if you missed a single council tax payment, after just three weeks your council could demand that you had to pay your full annual bill – so up to 12 times more than the original debt. Some councils would then change an extra £150 on top of this if you couldn't pay your bill. From next April, people will be given two months between missing a payment and having to pay their full bill, which we know will make a big difference to many people.

Secondly, we have had our financial outcomes for clients back - and we are overwhelmed with the impact we have had over the past year! 🤩

The total gains for all our clients in 25/26 is £9,397,463 – an average of £2,790 for each client in the year.

This includes:
* £3,063,447 in benefit income
* £6,256,191 in one-off payments
* £3,141,272 in ongoing payments
* Debt relief of £5,748,423 (write offs, and Debt Relief orders, IVAs etc)

This includes £2,743,702 for victim-survivors of economic abuse, £308,772 of which was through our pioneering Economic Abuse Evidence Form, now being piloted by major financial institutions.

In addition to these gains we helped people manage debts totalling £7,875,416 and arranged rent arrears repayments of £56,316 per year.

We want to thank everyone in our wonderful team who work so hard on behalf of our clients, and our clients for trusting our service to help them 💛

We are feeling very proud of the life-changing outcomes we have, and as well as the figures we have client feedback like this that means everything to us:

"We were in serious debt for quite a while and yes we were struggling but we had help from you and we have we started our life and it's all because of you and your team"

Wishing everyone a very happy Bank Holiday weekend.

We are proud to be working with RISE and other organisations on a Gambling Harms project funded by Greo.

Along with Rise, we are seeking women who have gambled themselves, or are affected by a relationship with someone who gambles now or has gambled in the past, to form a lived experience group. We want to find out about their experience of any support they received, or would have liked to receive.

Please do share this post with relevant organisations and individuals.
