October 22nd : AGM

December 10th : Christmas Lunch , Angus Fraser MBE

Cricket is being played this week at Hove and that signals the end of another successful winter for the society. We have had a great series of events again with just over 100 members and their guests attending on average.

September : Afternoon Tea with Jeff Thompson
October : AGM with Jon Filby and Pete Fitzboyden
November : Afternoon Tea : "Sussex Legends"
with John Barclay, John Snow and Peter Graves
December : Christmas Lunch with Graham Gooch
January 2025 : Afternoon Tea with Jonathan Agnew
​February 2025 : Afternoon Tea with John Simpson & Paul Farbrace and then finally last week
​March 2025 : Afternoon Tea with Vic Marks

2025 starts for The Sussex Cricket Society with two excellent events in January and February. Jonathan Agnew is our guest speaker at our afternoon tea on Wednesday 15th January and over 100 members and their guests are attending. Bookings have now closed for this.

On Wednesday February 19th, again an afternoon tea starting at 2pm, we have the Sussex captain John Simpson as our speaker at the County Ground. If you wish to attend in February and are not already a member you can do so in two easy steps : firstly join the Society at www.sussexcricketsociety.org and then pre-book the afternoon tea with payment (£22 per person) by emailing [email protected]

Early bookings are welcome and recommended. Payment by bank transfer is preferred. Please see the excellent January Newsletter for full details

Upcoming Events : The Christmas Lunch on 11th December (speaker Graham Gooch OBE) is the halfway point of the Society’s 2024/5 season of events. There may still be time to apply (£35 per person, you will have received the booking form with the last newsletter if you are already a member) you need to contact Ivor Evans before making a payment and by 1st December at the latest.

If you are not already a member you can join at www.sussexcricketsociety.org and you will be sent details of how to book and also receive the latest newsletter.

Our first 2025 event is on January 15th an afternoon tea with Jonathan Agnew MBE the speaker. Venue Cow Corner in the County Ground, Hove, starting at 2pm. Best known as a BBC commentator, his playing days were for Leicestershire (opening bowler). He also represented England in three Tests and the same number of ODIs. In 1991 he started his national radio role as part of BBC’s TMS team and has been a regular voice on TMS since then. Also in 1991 he was appointed as the BBC cricket correspondent. Despite retiring from that position at the end of the final Test against Pakistan about a month ago, he will remain as the lead commentator on TMS. We can expect a popular, interesting entertaining and informative afternoon. The schedule is start 2.00pm, tea about 3.00 after the talk then Q&A.

We have five great events lined up this winter and tickets are selling fast for the two before Christmas.

You can still sign up to our next tea when John Snow, John Barclay and Peter Graves will be talking to Roger Dakin. This "Sussex Legends" afternoon tea is on Wednesday 20th November starting at 2pm at Hove. Please be quick if you want a ticket for this tea as the closing date is this Monday coming : 11th November.

Members can see the latest newsletter for details of how to book (tickets are £22) and non members can join the society with immediate effect at www.sussexcricketsociety.org and let us know by Monday that they too wish to join us on the 20th.

Members should also note the closing deadline of December 2nd for tickets for the Christmas Lunch on Wednesday December 11th when Graham Gooch is the speaker.
