UPDATE April 2020
Due to the covid-19 emergency we are now operating a meal delivery and food parcel service for our most vulnerable and isolated guests. We are also taking referrals so if you know of anyone in the Hove, Hangleton, Portslade and Mile Oak area who would benefit from a hot lunch delivered free of charge on Tuesdays and Thursdays please email Caroline: [email protected] with details or check out our website.
Welcome to the Food and Friendship page. We will be chronicling the food we serve, the people we meet and some of the wonderful things that happen. We are a lunch club for older people in the area around Hove that's been around for more than 8 years. We meet every Tuesday and Thursday during school term time at Hove Methodist Church between 12:30 and 2:30. On Tuesdays, a three course meal with door to door transport provided by Brighton and Hove Community Transport currently costs £4 thanks to the generosity of our funders and Hove Methodist Church. On Thursdays a 2 course lunch costs £2 but there is no transport. We are a club that is run by volunteers - (Currently 28!) with one paid worker (me - Caroline Henderson). We have a management committee made up of a mixture of members and volunteers and we became a charity in 2018. We use surplus food provided by the charity fareShare Brighton and Hove to produce meals for over 100 older people, adults with learning disabilities and volunteers. We have an after lunch programme that can be anything from music and singing to gardening to talks on hobbies. Above all - we are a friendly and inclusive group. We even have a resident poet!
