Food and Friendship Luncheon Club

Food and Friendship Luncheon Club Food and Friendship is a place for older people and adults with learning disabilities to meet and eat on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We even have a resident poet.

Welcome to the Hove Luncheon Club brand new page. We will be chronicling the food we serve, the people we meet and some of the wonderful things that happen. We are a lunch club for older people in the area around Hove that's been around for more than 8 years. We meet every Tuesday during school term time at Hove Methodist Church between 12:30 and 2:30. A three course meal with door to doo

r transport provided by Brighton and Hove Community Transport currently costs £2 thanks to the generosity of our funders and Hove Methodist Church. We are a club that is run by volunteers - (Currently 18!) with one paid worker (me - Caroline Henderson). We have a management committee made up of a mixture of members and volunteers and we are a not for profit community group. We use surplus food provided by the charity fareShare Brighton and Hove to produce a 3 course meal for approximately 70 older people and volunteers. We have an after lunch programme that can be anything from music and singing to gardening to talks on hobbies. Above all - we are a friendly and inclusive group.

Huge thanks to the volunteer team - it's always something of a logistical challenge every week to set the hall up, prepare the 3 course lunch and cater for different dietary requirements as well as serve, support bus passengers and clear up. Lunch club volunteers manage it all with such dedication and good humour. They were aided today by lovely Amy and Jodie from Kingsway care - thank you so much to them.

We celebrated Jeans birthday and also Michaels very special birthday - congratulations to him!

That was another fun lunch club - thanks all for all the prepping, serving, setting up, tea and coffee making, clearing away, washing up, drying up, putting away, raffle-running and everything else in between. We had to abandon the sprouts - they pervaded the crush hall with their sulphourous perfume...(apologies to anyone who had to get a whiff of that.) Pretty full on today as lots of people away. Thanks to Jodie from Kingsway Care for her help too, very much appreciated.

Happy Birthday to Claire, Richard and Anna and how lovely to walk home in balmy sunshine!

Thanks to Brandon from Kingsway care for helping out too. Happy birthday to Karen and we celebrated Peter THE Poets birthday...again...cos why not.

Thanks all for today - and what a gorgeous day it was - so nice to have some blue sky and sunshine to bathe in after lunch.
Many thanks to the team as usual which this week included Nicky who heard we were a few volunters down and stepped in to help with soup prep. Mel and Lola made a lovely Rick Stein apricot tart and the tomato sauce and meatballs went down very well.

Janet entertained us with "Memory" from Cats amongst others and we celebrated Peter THE Poet, Fiona and Hazels birthdays. Looking forward to Thursday club already.
