On Monday, we welcomed a group of pupils from Woolmore Primary School in Tower Hamlets, a school part of our Schools and Families Programme, to the LSEG offices.

The children had a tour of the London Stock Exchange where they got to see where companies celebrate being listed on the stock market, try out sitting in the executive board room where big decisions are made, and look out at the incredible views of St Paul’s from the 7th floor.

Our LSEG volunteers then delivered a My Maths Story assembly, and a Maths in the Real World interactive session. Philip Schwarzmayr, Leonor Vieira Dias, Bella Peake, Silvia Vismara, Pallavi Bandekar and Susannah Chambers, shared their own experiences of maths and helped the children make the connections between numbers and everyday life. The passion the volunteers showed was inspiring, and made for a really postivie and engaging experience for everyone invovled.

A huge thank you to everyone at LSEG that was involved in making this happen, and to Rakhshanda Siddiqui, Assistant Head Teacher at Woolmore Primary School, who has helped coordinate the visit.

It's , so we’re taking the opportunity to say thank you to our favourite teacher and wonderful ambassador Bobby Seagull MBE 💜🌟

We got all nostalgic looking back at some of the many great times he’s supported us!

From appearing on BBC Breakfast with Rachel Riley for National Numeracy Day, to hosting a live quiz for schools across the country with West Ham United Foundation and Numberblocks. It's always a blast when Bobby's around!

What happens when you make numeracy friendly, fun and part of everyday community life? 👀

Meet Henry, a Numeracy Champion at Nottingham’s Open Arms Organisation. After his training, Henry began using number-based games to help members of the Elders’ Circle (a group for over 55s) build confidence with numbers – without making it feel like being back in the classroom!

From games and puzzles, to working out how to fairly distribute food parcels, Henry is showing that numeracy is part of everyday life – and that building number confidence can happen in a welcoming, supportive environment.

With over 4,000 people trained as Numeracy Champions since 2020, there are communities across the UK are helping people feel more confident with numbers! 💜🔢

“I remember agreeing but then going home and crying, because I was terrified”

Gillian’s story shows amazing resilience.

Even though she became a teacher she didn’t feel confident with maths. She told us:

'Our maths lead in the school got promoted, and the head asked me to take on the role. I remember agreeing but then going home and crying, because I was terrified. I thought that if I’m going to lead this in the school, I can’t have this fear. That was the kick I needed to do a lot more CPD and research about maths anxiety, not just maths skills.

Since then there’s been a total shift. I now absolutely love teaching maths, learning new techniques and methodologies, finding resources and taking part in projects. It’s definitely been a journey though and took me a long time to overcome.'
