🚨Update on the Virtual Care Model🚨
Dear Members,
We wanted to provide you with an update following discussions at the Joint Partnership Forum (JPF) regarding the proposed Virtual Care Model.
Trust Response and Next Steps
The Trust acknowledged that its initial approach to the proposals did not fully recognise the strength of feeling expressed by staff and trade unions. Responsibility for taking this work forward has now been transferred to the Deputy Medical Directorate.
The Trust also confirmed that the proposal to centralise Virtual Care into two locations has been paused. No further progress will be made until appropriate impact assessments have been completed and meaningful consultation has taken place.
GMB Position
Throughout these discussions, GMB has maintained a clear and consistent position. We support the development of Virtual Care and recognise the benefits it will bring to both patients and staff. However, we have also made it clear that we do not support the proposed centralised model in its current form.
Members’ Concerns
During negotiations, we shared members’ concerns about the potential impact of the proposals, including the risk of travelling long hours, the potential loss of experienced Advanced Paramedic Practitioners (APPs), and the effect on Band 6 clinicians currently undertaking PACCS clinical work.
We also advised the Trust that many members felt strongly enough about the proposals that they would be prepared to consider industrial action if the model proceeded without addressing these concerns.
Moving Forward
We welcome the Trust’s decision to pause the current proposals and to undertake further work before any decisions are made. This provides an opportunity for meaningful engagement with staff and trade unions to develop a model that supports patients while also recognising the experience, skills and concerns of the workforce.
The GMB will continue to engage constructively with the Trust throughout this process and will keep members informed as discussions progress.
