🧵 Brownies: where cardboard becomes couture

Think Brownies is just crafts and colouring? Think again! 👀

Our Brownies recently took on Trash Fashion: Historical Style, turning cardboard, packaging and whatever else they could get their hands on into completely wearable creations. ✂️📦👗

From sensational shoes to spectacular recycled headwear, our Brownies got creative, worked together, problem-solved and had a LOT of fun along the way.

Because at Brownies, you never quite know what you're going to get up to…

🔥 One week we might be learning new skills
🎨 The next we’re making something ridiculous
🌳 Then we're off having an adventure
💡 And along the way, they're learning confidence, teamwork and independence too.

Brownies is for girls aged 7- 10.

🚓 A very exciting visit for our Rainbows!👮🏻‍♀️
We were delighted to welcome Sussex Police for a special visit this week!

The Rainbows got to try on some police kit 👮🏻‍♀️, learn more about what to do in an emergency, including what to do if they ever get lost and, of course, the highlight for many was getting to sit in the police car! 🚓

Lots of questions, lots of excitement and some very happy Rainbows! 🌈💜

A huge thank you to Sussex Police for coming along and helping our Rainbows learn more about our emergency services💙

👐 From playdough makers to playdough troubleshooters!

Our Rainbows, Brownies and Guides have all been getting stuck into making playdough - but with a little more independence at each stage of Guiding!

🌈 Rainbows had lots of hands-on fun making their playdough with plenty of help from our leaders.

🟤 Brownies took the next step, adding their own ingredients under supervision and working together to follow the recipe.

🔵 Guides were given the ingredients and instructions and set off to make it themselves with leaders mainly stepping in when things went a little… wrong! 😂 They had to work together, follow instructions and troubleshoot their way to a successful batch.

It's lovely to see how activities can grow with our girls, giving them more responsibility, independence and confidence as they move through the sections.💛💙❤️

And yes, there was quite a lot of playdough!!

Ice cream, anyone?🍦

Our Rainbows have been getting stuck into their Pawprint Family Ice Cream Challenge badge and this week they made their very own ice cream… from playdough! 🍨

There was plenty of mixing, squishing, shaping, scooping and laughing!

We love seeing our youngest members getting creative, trying something new and having lots of fun along the way. 🌈

Our Rainbow units are currently very popular and many have waiting lists, but that's not the only way you can get involved…

We’re always looking for adults who can help make activities like this happen.

You don't need to have been a Guide yourself, and you don't need to be an expert - just a willingness to get involved, have fun and help give girls brilliant experiences.

🍂 Growing Up Wild! 🌿

Our Brownies have been getting out into nature and starting their Growing Up Wild In Autumn badge! 🍁

They've been exploring the natural world around them, getting up close to trees and leaves and using their creativity to make their own woodland pictures and characters. 🌳

There’s something rather lovely about slowing down, getting outside and seeing what you can discover right on your doorstep. 💛

We can't wait to see what else our Brownies get up to as they continue their wild autumn adventures! 🍂🦉

🏛️ History detectives! 🔎

Our Brownies have been getting out and about to explore St Helen's Church as part of their Local History badge.

They had the chance to discover more about the building and its history, before putting their detective skills to work with activities and challenges of their own. 🕵️‍♀️

It's amazing what you can discover when you start looking at the places right on your doorstep! 👀

A brilliant morning of exploring, learning and having fun, and another badge well underway. 💛

🚴‍♀️ What a way to spend a Sunday!🏅

On the 13th September, Guides, Rangers and leaders from Hove and across the County were out in force helping to celebrate an incredible achievement - handing out medals to the amazing cyclists who completed the London to Brighton Cycle Ride!

It was brilliant to be there at the finish line, cheering riders on and making sure they received the medal they’d worked so hard for.

A huge well done to everyone who took on the challenge, and a big thank you to our Girlguiding volunteers for helping make the day so special! 💙

Who knows… perhaps we’ll see some of our Guides taking on the ride themselves one day! 🚴‍♀️

🥔 Our Guides have been getting stuck into their Potato Challenge badge, working together in patrols to make, and then cook their very own potato latkes! 👩‍🍳

There was chopping, grating, mixing, frying and, most importantly, plenty of eating! 😂

Working in small groups (patrols) meant everyone had a part to play, from preparing the mixture to getting the latkes cooked and ready to enjoy.

Another potato challenge ticked off! 🥔✅

And we're beginning to think our Guides may have discovered that potatoes are considerably more versatile than they realised…

🍄 A little bit of Brownie magic! 🦉

Our Brownies have been getting creative and making their very own toadstools, inspired by the Brownie Story and the magical world of Brownies.

We think they’ve done a brilliant job, with some very characterful owls, every one is completely unique. 🥰

It's lovely seeing the girls bring the Brownie Story to life through their own creativity! 🍄

Our Guides have been getting creative and sharing what they love about being a Guide. Their answers include cooking, games, crafts, badges, trips and making friends...and we couldn't have put it better ourselves!

Guides is all about trying new things, having adventures and making memories with friends. 🏕️🎨🍪

💙 Guides are for girls aged 10-14.

We have Guide groups across Hove and Portslade, and new members are welcome!
