MEET THE SOLOISTS: Jonny Gannon 🎤

For Mother Clap’s Molly House, bass Jonny Gannon stepped into the spotlight with Kylie Minogue’s “Love at First Sight.” ❤️

On the surface, it’s a straightforward love song. But for Jonny, there’s something particularly special about hearing a q***r icon and ally like Kylie sing about falling in love.

While so many love songs can feel rooted in heterosexual relationships, Kylie’s music has always felt different to him.

“A Kylie song can be sung by anyone, to anyone and about anyone.”

And Love at First Sight had a very particular place in the story of our Molly House.

When Jonny auditioned with the song, he suggested placing it just before the wedding scene — celebrating the love between James and Chris’s characters and giving them, and us, a moment of levity and joy before the story moved into darker territory.

For Jonny, that sense of belonging goes beyond the song. Since joining Brighton Gay Men’s Chorus in 2024, he says the Chorus has taught him to be truly proud of who he is and given him a sense of community he never thought possible as a gay man.

One singer, one Kylie classic — and a love song that really can belong to everyone. 🏳️‍🌈

More of our Molly House soloists are still to come…

MEET THE SOLOISTS: Jon Taylor 🎤

For Mother Clap's Molly House, Tenor 2 Jon Taylor stepped into the spotlight with a song everyone knows: Petula Clark's “Downtown.”

But heard inside the Molly House, this 1960s pop classic takes on a rather different meaning. 🏳️‍🌈

“I picked *Downtown* as some of the lines could be interpreted as being part of a Molly House,” says Jon.

Lyrics about finding someone like you, someone who understands you, suddenly feel very different when they're placed in the world of the Molly Houses — spaces where men could meet, find community and, for a while at least, be themselves.

As Jon puts it: “When seen through the Molly House lens these words take on a completely different hue than the one intended!”

Over the next few weeks, we'll be meeting all eight of our Molly House soloists and discovering the stories behind the songs they chose.

Next time you hear “Downtown”, you might just hear it differently…

**RETURN TO THE MOLLY HOUSE: Eight voices, eight moments 🎤🏳️‍🌈**

There's something special that happens when one voice steps out from the chorus.

Solo performances have always been an important part of a Brighton Gay Men's Chorus show — a chance for individual members to take the spotlight, tell a story of their own and bring something uniquely theirs to the stage.

For **Mother Clap's Molly House**, eight of our members did exactly that.

Across the show, their songs became part of the storytelling — sometimes joyful, sometimes moving, sometimes unexpected, and each bringing a different voice and character to our night at the Molly House.

So meet our eight soloists!

And this isn't the last you'll see of them.

Over the next few days and weeks, we'll be returning to each of these performances individually — meeting the singers, revisiting their songs and putting each of our Molly House soloists back in the spotlight. ✨

Oh, what a night at the Molly House… 🏳️‍🌈✨

A few more of our favourite moments from **Mother Clap's Molly House** — a night of music, mischief, fabulous frocks and more than a little debauchery.

We have *so many* wonderful memories from this show that we're not quite ready to leave the Molly House behind.

Over the next few weeks we'll be sharing more from behind the scenes, introducing some of the musicians and creatives who made it all happen, and revealing a few things you might have missed on the night.

For now, swipe through and enjoy the glorious chaos. 👉
