We established during the first lockdown and delivered affordable veg boxes weekly to local residents between May 2020 and May 2021.. We are committed to working together to empower local people around food! Very Local Food Hubs Project now has 4 project strands to enable us to do this:

- Support with food growing locally (workshops, resources, hands on opportunities)
- Cooking and tasting opportunities
- Fresh food provision (Veg boxes)
- Food Strategy: Partnership working, training and networking to develop a localised strategy and action plan to tackle food inequality

Get in touch if you would like to help/ get involved:) We have a range of different volunteering opportunities available. We are one of the city's 7 affordable food pilots supported by Brighton & Hove Food Partnership. We work directly with other local food projects such as Moulsecoomb community market at St George's hall and Bevendean Food Bank on Norwich drive, as well as Moulsecoomb Chomp at Hillview Good News centre. We are working to develop local resilience and empowerment around food and to tackle food inequality to help support a healthy, connected neighbourhood.. Contact us at [email protected]

volunteer with us!

we're looking for some Community Fridge volunteers. Please get in touch if you have any questions.

[email protected]

We are currently looking for volunteers who would help the running of the fridge on a Friday or Saturday 12.30-2.30pm every couple of weeks/once a month. In this role you would:
- ☕️ welcome members into the fridge by offering a tea, coffee, or water
- 🧼 helping to keep the space clean and tidy alongside the community manager
- 🥦 talk to members about their food shop and help answer any questions

Benefits of volunteering include:
- 🥖going home with a shop from the fridge
- 🥕a space to chat about food, recipes, seasonal veg, and all other food related fun with neighbors and members
- free food safety and hygiene training
- get involved in a local community project and help your neighbors

In each session, you’d be working with Maddy, our manager, or another community fridge coordinator.

Let us know by emailing [email protected] or letting us know on your next visit!
