The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), set standards of education and training for nursing and midwifery courses and they need to engage service users and their families where appropriate throughout the programme.

Would you like to get paid to provide your experience, knowledge and skills of children and young people’s healthcare?

They are seeking parents or carers engaged in your services whose children are or have been in receipt of health services would like to be part of this work.

The activities are quite varied but may include:
-Curriculum development
-Involvement with teaching, learning and assessment of students
-Student induction and preparation for practice learning
-Reviewing and participating in recruitment and selection events (open days, interviews etc)
-Quality assurance activities, e.g. taking part in and reviewing course re-approval events.

The university recruits service users as casual employees on specific contracts for up to 50 hours of paid activity per year, and will provide the training and induction required.

In case you missed it, a PaCC legend retired last week!

Yesterday we said goodbye to Pacc's Engagement Coordinator, Paolo, seen here with some of his gifts. Paolo is retiring after 13 years with PaCC.

His work has changed over the years, highlights include running coffee mornings supporting hundreds of families across the city and outreach to diverse groups, building partnerships with community orgs ensuring all parent carers voices are heard. Always with a smile and immense care.

We’ll miss him a lot, enjoy your retirement Paolo, the office won't be the same without you!

When your child needed support, did services understand your family’s needs?

Would you like to help to make support fairer and more accessible?

Are you from an ethnic minority background?

Do you have a child with learning disabilities or complex needs?

Laura is conducting doctoral research exploring the experiences of parents and caregivers of children with learning disabilities and complex needs from ethnic minority backgrounds when seeking support for their child.

You will do a short meeting and then an online interview (60 minutes) and you will get a £15 voucher for taking part.

Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust (SCFT) is developing its new Trust strategy and thinking about how they can improve their care for the future. As part of this work, they want to better understand the experiences of children and young people with SEND and their families.

They would like to hear what is working well, what could be improved, and what matters most to you when accessing their services. SCFT provides a range of services for children and young people, including Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Child Development Services, Health Visiting and School Nursing.

Your feedback will help them identify priorities, improve services, and ensure the voices of children, young people and families are at the heart of future developments.

Opportunity for parents to be involved in a research project led by Sussex Partnership Foundation Trust (SPFT) and King's College London (KCL).

With funding from the National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR), SPFT and KCL will be developing online mental health interventions for adults with intellectual disabilities. The intervention will utilise the power storytelling to help people feel more connected and hopeful about their mental health.

They will

Create a library of mental health stories told by people with intellectual disabilities * Develop an accessible web platform

Test the web platform to see if it is useable and helpful to people.

They are currently looking for parents and carers of adults with intellectual disabilities to join their lived experience advisory group alongside adults with intellectual disabilities and professionals. The advisory group meetings will be held quarterly. Meetings will be held in Brighton and in London. An hourly rate of £27.50 will be paid, plus travel and expenses.

Brighton & Hove City Council is currently consulting on three School Streets schemes and we want to hear your views on our proposals at:

Balfour Primary/Varndean School/Dorothy Stringer SchoolWest Blatchington Primary/Kings School

Woodingdean Primary

The consultations are open until 20 July. School Streets are designed to address issues on the roads around schools at drop off and pick up times, including congestion, illegal or unsafe parking immediately outside of school. Previous School Streets schemes in the city relied on signage to restrict vehicle access but there has been issues with compliance, undermining the scheme’s safety benefits. Brighton & Hove City Council is therefore strengthening its School Streets programme by introducing camera enforcement to improve safety during school drop-off and pick-up times.

Camera enforcement will provide a more reliable, long-term solution. It removes reliance on volunteers, ensures consistent restrictions, and improves compliance, helping to keep roads outside schools safer. The move aligns with Department for Transport guidance published in November 2024, which recommends camera enforcement for permanent School Streets and discourages long-term use of volunteers. By adopting this approach, Brighton & Hove will deliver School Streets that are consistent, fair, and effective in protecting children and improving road safety.
