We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of Professor Jason Arday.

Accountability should never become dehumanisation. The scale and tone of the treatment he received went far beyond fair criticism and, in our view, cannot be separated from racism and the particular hostility so often directed at Black people in public life.

The media have shown time and time again a selective and targeted approach to who they hunt down and ultimately destroy. The inability to acknowledge someone’s mistakes while still recognising their humanity is an experience people of colour in institutions are overly familiar with. We understand the community will be feeling this loss with anger, frustration, fear and many other emotions. We urge you to be with each other.

Whatever the case, Jason deserved dignity, fairness and compassion.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends and all those who loved him. May he rest in peace.

The official after party of Brighton BASH Carnival 2026 is taking place at .

After the carnival comes to a close, the energy continues with DJs bringing the sounds of the diaspora to the dancefloor — from reggae and dub to Afrobeats, hip hop and beyond.

Expect:

Here’s everything you need to know about the day’s key timings:

🕚 Carnival opens: 11:00 AM

🎶 Live performances begin: 11:30 AM

🕊️ Moment of Silence: 2:00 PM – 2:15 PM
A time for us to come together in reflection and remembrance.

🥁 Carnival Parade: 2:15 PM – 2:45 PM
Feel the rhythm as the parade brings music, movement and colour through the heart of the carnival.

🕗 Carnival closes: 8:00 PM

🌊 The Second Wave – Official After Party
The celebration doesn’t stop there! Join us from 11:00 PM – 2:30 AM at Komedia, Brighton for The Second Wave, the official Brighton BASH Carnival after party. Expect DJs, incredible vibes and music from across the diaspora.
