Thought for the Week – Trusting the One Who Calls
Genesis 12:1–9 • Psalm 33:1–12 • Romans 4:13–25 • Matthew 9:9–13, 18–26
This week's readings are woven together by a common theme: faith that responds to God's call, even when the outcome is uncertain.
In Genesis 12:1–9, Abram is asked to leave everything familiar behind and set out for a land that God will show him. There is no detailed map, no timetable, no guarantees—only a promise. Yet Abram goes. His journey begins not with certainty, but with trust.
The same trust is celebrated in Psalm 33, where we are reminded that God's plans stand firm forever. While human plans may change, God's purposes remain steadfast. The psalm encourages us to place our hope not in our own strength, but in the Lord whose love never fails.
Paul develops this theme in Romans 4:13–25, pointing to Abraham as an example of faith. Despite his age and the seeming impossibility of God's promise, Abraham believed that God could do what He had promised. His faith was not blind optimism; it was confidence in the character of God.
In Matthew 9, we see that same faith in action. Matthew leaves his tax booth to follow Jesus. A synagogue leader kneels before Jesus, believing He can restore life to his daughter. A woman reaches out to touch Jesus' cloak, trusting that He can heal her. In each case, faith opens the door for transformation.
At Oikos, we often meet people facing uncertainty, change, or difficult circumstances. These readings remind us that faith is not having all the answers. Faith is taking the next step, trusting that God walks with us.
This week, whatever lies before you, may you hear God's invitation as Abram did, trust His promises as Abraham did, and reach out to Christ as those in the Gospel did.
For the God who calls is also the God who provides, guides, heals, and gives hope.
Blessings from all at Oikos.
