In 40 years METRO Charity has been for 11 years in the forefront of cancer support for those LGBTQ people who have a prostate cancer diagnosis. Now prostate cancer is the most common diagnosed cancer we hope to help and support many more in their time of need.

Happy LGBTQ+ History Month everybody! 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈
Every day for the last forty years, we have been updating our very own q***r history book, and we aren't stopping anytime soon! 📚

This year's theme is Activism and Social Change, and we are extremely proud to have a rich history of activism within our organisation. ✊

From taking to the streets to protest against Section 28 in the 80s, to driving a double-decker bus around central London for World Mental Health Day in the 90s, our community and advocating for change have always been at our heart! ♥️

Throughout the month, we will share throwback content, celebrating moments of activism and action in our history.

🔥 20 Years of LGBTQ+ History Month – But Our Fight is Far from Over 🔥

For two decades, LGBTQ+ History Month has marked our resilience, our defiance, and our joy. But in a world still hostile to Black and marginalised q***r lives, celebration alone is not enough—we must resist, disrupt, and demand more.

This year’s theme? Activism and Social Change. Not just words, but a call to action. Our existence has always been political, our survival a revolution. From the frontlines of protests to the power of collective joy, we honour those who fought before us by continuing the fight today.

Black and Brown q***r, trans & non binary communities are still battling racism, transphobia, and systemic violence—whether on our streets, in our workplaces, or from governments that seek to erase us. But we are unshaken, and we are unstoppable.

This is not just history—it’s our present, and our future. Liberation is not given; it is taken. So let’s take it.

✊🏾 No pride without justice. No justice without action. ✊🏾

We're grateful to Sir Chris Hoy for so bravely and openly telling his story this morning, and we welcome news that the Government is now actively looking into testing men who have a family history of prostate cancer from the age of 45.

1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer but there's currently no screening programme. If your dad or brother has had prostate cancer, or you're Black, you have the highest risk of getting the disease and we strongly recommend you talk to your GP about testing from 45.

Right now, you need to be aware of this and bring it up with a GP yourself. As prostate cancer often has no symptoms in its earlier stages this is leading to too many men getting a late, incurable diagnosis - like Sir Chris.

The system needs to change.

That's why we're calling on the Government to overhaul outdated NHS guidelines so that GPs can start conversations with these men about their higher risk and the option to have a PSA blood test. This move will save thousands of lives every year.

⏰ The earlier you find prostate cancer, the easier it is to treat.
