This week is National Dementia Action Week, raising awareness of the disease and the support and opportunities on offer to people living with dementia, families and carers.

We are highlighting what's on offer locally, to people living with dementia. Helping people continue to live an active lifestyle, despite the impact living with dementia can have on someone’s everyday life is vital. During this week, there are exciting activities across the borough at our local hubs and community rooms in Dudley, Stourbridge and Halesowen for people living with dementia and their carers. These include an arts and music session, information drop-ins, singing and dancing activities, and the dementia bus will be out and about. https://www.dudley.gov.uk/residents/care-and-health/adult-health-and-social-care/support-to-live-independently/dementia-gateways/

Dudley Carers Hub also supports carers of people living with dementia holding a supportive social group the second and fourth Wednesday of every month at Brett Young Carers Hub in Halesowen. Both carers and the person they care for with dementia are welcome - just come along. https://www.dudley.gov.uk/residents/care-and-health/adult-health-and-social-care/do-you-look-after-someone/
A reminiscence community cafe also takes place at our Community Hub at 33 Malt Mill Lane, Halesowen B62 8JE on the last Saturday of each month from 10am - 12. It's a dementia friendly group with music, games, chat and trips on offer - all welcome.

Are you a parent or a carer? Are you supporting a young person who feels stuck?
They’re not in work...
College didn’t work out...
Maybe their wellbeing/mental health struggles affect things...
You’ve tried to get help and felt passed from place to place...

We want to understand what families are going through when young people aged 16-24 become disconnected from education, employment or training.

Please share with us your honest experience and views.

You can either complete the survey to share your views: https://bit.ly/4nmeIkc or sign up separately to register your interest in joining us for a relaxed focus group discussion with other parents and carers: https://bit.ly/4uksCWV

Mental health poem

In shadows deep, where thoughts reside,
A silent battle, often hide.
The mind, a maze of twist and turn,
Where peace is sought, and lessons learned.

It's okay to stumble, fall, and weep,
To seek support, your secrets keep.
For in vulnerability, strength is found,
A path to healing, safe and sound.

So let us break the chains of shame,
Embrace our scars, reclaim our name.
Together we rise, with hope as our guide,
Towards a future, where minds thrive side by side.
