We are all very proud of this one. Go smash it Rory!
Northgate Swimming Club is celebrating the achievements of one of their star performers, thirteen-year-old Rory Yarnley. Rory dominated the County Championship earlier this year, comfortably winning his age category, and went on to compete impressively at the recent regional championships in Sandwell. Alongside this, Rory has taken part in a number of events across the country in 2026, setting club records and achieving an incredible set of personal bests in varying distances, placing him in the top 20 performers for his age in the United Kingdom for a number of races.
As a result of these performances, Rory has been invited to the Aquatics GB Next Gen Championships, which is an end of season national swimming event for the top junior talent in the United Kingdom. This seven-day event in July is by invitation only and Rory will travel to Ponds Forge in Sheffield to compete in the 100 & 200m Backstroke, plus 200m Individual Medley and 400m Individual Medley races.
Rory will then return to Sheffield a week later to compete in the Swim England National Summer Meet, where he has qualified to take part in the 800m & 1500m Freestyle races, testing himself against the best swimmers in his age group nationally.
Head Coach Michael Owen commented, ‘I am delighted that Rory has received this recognition, and I have no doubt that he will perform superbly at these forthcoming events. Rory trains incredibly hard and deserves this success; his enthusiasm and dedication for swimming is an inspiration for every club member’.
