LoveBridgnorth

LoveBridgnorth A place to celebrate our brilliant town & local community. Bridgnorth a Great British High St Winner all other costs are borne by our ourselves. Sally Themans

Welcome to Love Bridgnorth which was launched in 2015 and aims to highlight all that we love about our home town. I’m a local mum and businesswoman with a Bridgnorth based company, Good2Great, which I have run with my husband for 14 years. Having worked on a Pride in Your High Street project with the local authority, I could see the impact of positivity about a place on social media, so set out

to always put our lovely town in a good light and to reach out and connect with our community.

Love Bridgnorth ‘celebrates and cherishes’ Bridgnorth and hopes to foster and invoke civic pride - whilst at the same time informing people of good news and local events. On the journey was the entry in 2016 into the great British High Street competition joining forces with Buy Big in Bridgnorth. Together we put Bridgnorth firmly on the map as a winning entry in the Large Market Town category – a unique place with good kind warm hearted people, stunning scenery and a wide range of fabulous shops, eating and watering holes

Having raised three children here I believe it has the perfect balance of town and country living; good schools, great sports clubs and is well respected in the arts even with its own Theatre tucked into the hillside. Steeped in history and a beautiful physical setting contribute to the reasons I love Bridgnorth - along with 18,000 others across a LoveBridgnorth Facebook Twitter and Instagram accounts. I didn’t grow up here – I’m a Home Counties girl and like many who have discovered Bridgnorth and chosen to make this amazing place their home, we feel our gratitude and sense of place deeply. I have lived here since 1992 and been involved in the local community; as editor of local magazine ‘What’s What!’, serving as a school governor of Bridgnorth Endowed, and as chair of the PTA of St Johns and first female chair of Northgate Swimming Club. I am a director of Bridgnorth Rugby Club and served as a local magistrate for over 22 years. There is now a small team of Love Bridgnorth admins whom I’m really indebted to : Tamsin Preece, Lesley Dagnall, Nerys Arch, Wendy Smallman, Dan Bradley, Lindsay Crussell, Petra Walsh, Rita Bains, Jen Ridley-Towns and Peter Rockett. We are in the process of registering as a community interest company with Tamsin Preece, Chris Aked and John Adams as trustees. I’m most grateful to be supported by local businesses Nock Deighton, the Travelwallet and Perry and Phillips who help with website hosting, printing etc. Thank you for supporting and reading.

A small charity with big dreams. Dedicated to providing rescue and shelter for both domestic and farm animals, this local organisation opens its doors to everything from cats, rabbits, and gerbils to donkeys, pigs, and even a beautiful baby cow.

The charity consistently cares for a wide variety of cats, kittens, dogs, and smaller pets who are ready to find their forever families. Paws Together Enville prides itself on taking on the trickier cases, working tirelessly to make a genuine difference in the lives of animals who need it most.

Have you come across this guy yet? Günther Bedson - otherwise known as the 'The Shifnal Rambler' although a more apt description would be 'The Shropshire Rambler' as he wanders all over our beautiful county and gives us inspired commentary and photos.

I had the great pleasure of organising a fundraising walk with him a couple of weekends ago (raising £7250 for Davies Sunflower Appeal - yay!) and can safely say his is a true tip top bloke who guided 120 walkers from Wellington to Shifnal...

This weekend he is planning on embarking on his most ambitious hiking challenge to date: Günther will attempt to walk the entire northern loop of the Shropshire Way – that’s 75 miles – in under 36 hours without sleep! All donations will go directly to the Lingen Davies Sunflower Appeal.

This is a huge walk - and - given the temperatures we're experiencing this week 🥵

If you can’t donate, please consider sharing this post with people, who you think might!

Do you know someone, who is suffering from cancer?

Most of us know of, or have someone amongst our family, friends or colleagues, who is living with this terrifying and cruel disease.

Today I’d like to share a few lines about the charity I am supporting with the 75-mile nonstop hiking challenge I’ll be attempting this coming Friday and Saturday 26th – 27th June.

Lingen Davies Cancer Support is the main charity for cancer support in the Telford & Wrekin, Shropshire and Mid Wales region. The charity was launched in 1979 by the then mayor of Shrewsbury, Bernard Lingen and local accountant Frank Davies, whose initial aim was to equip a new radiotherapy department at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. Since then, the charity has helped over 100,000 people suffering from cancer with improved treatment and care.

Lingen Davies has now launched its biggest appeal to date. The Sunflower Appeal is aiming to raise £5million. This will fund a new Chemotherapy Centre in Telford’s Princess Royal Hospital. The goal is to open this centre by 2029. This will double the capacity for cancer treatment across our region, meaning patients can access the treatment they need more easily and quickly. So far, the appeal has raised over £1.25million – so it’s a quarter of the way there – but still has a long way to go. Our region desperately needs this new cancer treatment centre, so I hope you will consider donating.

In the photo here I am with Claire and Andy – two of the dedicated community fundraisers at Lingen Davies, who – like me – are wholeheartedly behind pushing for the success of the appeal.

All the proceeds from my 75-mile epic hike will go directly into the Sunflower Appeal. I’d be delighted to have your support in the form of a donation. Here’s the link to the JustGiving page for my fundraising hike. The platform is easy to use and safe:

If you can’t donate, please share this post with friends, who you think might. Thank you!

Please do tune in to my page on 26th/27th when I will share updates of my progress as I attempt to hike the entire length of the Shropshire Way Main Route North in under 36 hours without sleep!

Wishing you all a calm and peaceful Sunday and Happy Father’s Day!

Günther

It's the film review we've been waiting for, new from Charlie...🎬🍿

Toy Story 5
Rated: PG
Times: Check Reel Cinema website
Rating: 4.5/5

Three years after Woody (Tom Hanks) left the gang to help lost toys with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), Jessie (Joan Cusack) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), have been struggling with helping their owner, Bonnie (Scarlett Spears), to make friends.

Bonnie gets a tablet named Lilypad (Greta Lee), and becomes part of a worldwide epidemic about technology taking over. However, while Woody comes back to help his friends deal with this new reality, Jessie soon discovers an unexpected link to her own tragic past…

While a lot less conclusive than the last two films, Toy Story 5’s premise is a lot more interesting than the previous film, with its commentary on both the negatives and positives of connection via technology, being very timely to modern families.

Much like how Toy Story 4 was an epilogue to Woody’s development, Toy Story 5 does the same thing for fan favourite character, Jessie the cowgirl. This film brings her journey, that started in Toy Story 2 and was further explored in the 2013 TV special, Toy Story of Terror, to full circle.

While supporting actors like Hamm (John Ratzenberger), Rex (Wallace Shawn) and even the recast Potato Heads (John Hopkins and Anna Vocino replace the late Don Rickles and Estelle Harris), get limited screentime, the likes of Greta Lee, Conan O’Brien, Craig Robinson and Shelby Rabara do a great job as the new tech characters, with the former being an entertaining new antagonist, Lilypad, and the latter three, fun new companions for Jessie. As for Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, while it is obvious that the former came back to bring the franchise back on track, despite only being a supporting role this time.

We are in a new era for the franchise that was previously defined by one of the greatest trilogies ever made. Toy Story 5 is a fantastic story for these lovable heroes, with stunning animation, hilarious and tearjerking payoffs to previous films and a great message on the importance of balancing both positives and negatives of technology.
