Bridgend Community Bereavement Support
We provide support groups is for children, teens and adults in a safe and open environment, so that they have the opportunity to open up and express their feelings in regards to a loved one who has passed away. One of our main aims is to help rebuild lives and relationships after suffering the loss of a loved one. Children have the opportunity to express their emotions by using various arts and crafts and different activities, as well as mixing with other children who have/are going through similar experiences. The charity is lucky to have Bailey the therapy dog (Pets as Therapy). Bailey attends group sessions when required to have one-to-ones with the children and also attends as many events ass possible. Some of the activities we arrange for group members include first aid training, mindfulness, outings for all the family so that they can spend quality time together and experience days for the children and teens.
The program is a free service but some activities that we provide may have a slight charge. BCBS is a non-profit charity which solely relies on funding and donations from the local Community and other Organisations. In 2019 we were successfully awarded a National Lottery Awards for All - Community Fund Grant which will help fund a new Su***de Support Service that we are currently in the process of organising.
The groups are supported by voluntary Qualified Counsellors and Volunteers. The Counsellors offer one-to-one confidential counselling sessions within the group time if required by individuals. We ensure that the adults group is a relaxed atmosphere where everyone is able to feel comfortable with each other. We never expect anyone to stand up and talk within the group and people are never forced to tell their story, it is completely up to the individual if they would like to say anything or just sit and listen. Within the group we respect confidentiality and respect each other and praise ourselves on our approachability and the continuous support we offer to our members.
