Brentwood Sea Cadets

Brentwood Sea Cadets We are Brentwood Sea Cadets and part of the UK's oldest nautical youth charity. Aged 10-18? Join for nautical adventure and fun!

The first Sea Cadet unit was established in 1854 at Whitstable in Kent, created by communities wanting to give young people instruction on a naval theme. Traditionally old seafarers provided training while local businessmen funded the Unit Headquarters. The tradition of community - based Sea Cadet Units continues today with 400 across the UK each with charitable status enabling them to raise funds to meet their running costs. All Units are members of the Sea Cadet Corps and are governed by the national charity MSSC - the Marine Society & Sea Cadets. We work partnership with the Royal Navy under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and receive corporate support from commercial shipping companies and the Maritime sector. Our core purpose is to celebrate Britain's maritime heritage and contribute to its future development by supporting young people as Sea Cadets.

On Saturday our PO (SCC) Sara and LC Ahmet took on the Yorkshire three peaks challenge to raise money for the unit.

They braved the rain to complete the Yorkshire three peaks of Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.

We are extremely grateful to them both for taking on this amazing challenge to raise money for the unit!

They managed to raise over ยฃ300 which will go towards keeping an amazing experience for all our cadets and staff.

BZ both, and thank you!

Yesterday our cadets and staff were excited to go and explore Chatham Historic Dockyard in Kent.

They had an action packed day, learning about rope making (and had a go themselves!) naval ship building and everything maritime history!

They go to visit aboard the two ships; HMS Gannet and HMS Cavalier, and had fun touring around HMS Ocelot, a diesel-electric submarine.

This trip was planned after receiving funding from Essex County Councilโ€™s Locality Fund. Everyone had a fantastic time, and we are so grateful to have been able to do this with their help.
