We are ready for the World Cup. Dolls have new shirts and kit and now are representing the men.
The solar post box is not so easy to cope with, but here is our best efforts with a new pelmet style topper.

This month was special as we had some changes in our Committee, namely our new President Hazel and we are delighted that she is willing to lead us onwards.
Our speaker was John Richard a magician who amazed us with his tricks. If you’ve not had him at your WI we certainly recommend him to you.

20 of our members attended yesterday’s County Annual Meeting which rather conveniently was held very nearby our Village. Speakers were Patrick Grant of Sewing Bee fame, who told us about his company Community Clothing. Also we heard from Doreen Potter who was very comical and entertaining telling stories very much in the Joyce Grenfell style.
It was a really nice day where members could stroll around shopping at the various stalls and catching up with friends.

Last night was the Darts Final, once again held at the Bardswell Centre and organised by Liz Francis of Brentwood Belles.
It ended with a win for Brentwood Belles after a very close match with Gt Bromley. Consequently Gt Bromley’s Captain presented the winning trophy. Liz in turn gave out certificates to the two runners up.
This event really needs to be better supported otherwise it will disappear and that would be a great loss, as it provides social and friendships between the various WIs.
So come on everyone join in and support this very important social event. New season starts September 🤞🤞

Christmas has returned to us. One of our toppers was in the theme of Nestle Quality Street. I sent a photo to them and today came a lovely response. Looking forward to our May meeting where they will be shared out.

A really good meeting today. Pam Griffiths conducted our AM most efficiently. We were all decked out in red for St George and even the cakes were flying the flag. Hazel was elected as our new President and 3 members entertained us with a John Cleese skit. Some of you may remember him and the two Ronnies a long time ago, ours was very much a ladies of Doddinghurst version. See pic. Jean a very long term member and Secretary also for a very long time stood down. We presented her with a potted Azalea plant, one of her favourites. She and her vast knowledge will still be around to keep us on the right track if needed. We all now look forward to the future with our new President and a changed Committee.

Could you put Andy’s contact details on here please. I’m sure I’m not the only one making early preps for work on 2027 programme. Time flies when your having fun it is said. The WI goes a long way to making that a truth.

In celebration of the unveiling of a
Blue Plaque dedicated to Lady Catherine Petre, who was the first President of the Federation of Essex WIs, local institutes were invited to attend. Alongside us were Brentwood Belles and Fryerning.
We took care of the refreshments, making cakes and serving tea after the unveiling.
Sue MacEwan who started the process gave a speech and Lord Petre told us some interesting facts about his Grandmother.
Moyra Jackson, our current President, then spoke and unveiled the Plaque. The whole thing was quite moving and it felt an honour to be present. There were over 40 people present who then enjoyed the refreshments in the sunny courtyard.
