𝐁𝐖𝐀𝐆'𝐬 𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐥𝐮𝐛 𝐍𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 - 𝐊𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐬 𝐔𝐩 𝐂𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞
We were absolutely delighted to welcome bird of prey specialist, long-time friend, and BWAG supporter Nigel King to last night’s sold-out club night!

Nigel delivered a fascinating, highly informative presentation that completely captivated the audience. He was joined by two very special guests, a Kestrel and a small Scops Owl, and shared a wealth of insight into their behaviours and vital roles in the countryside.

Alongside the live birds, Nigel brought along a taxidermy Kestrel, giving everyone a wonderful chance to study its intricate markings and features up close.

Thank you to Nigel and to everyone who came out to make it such a fantastic evening!

Task Day, 18 October 2026: Once again BWAG is back on Primrose Banks cutting back the brush in preparation for the Spring and the array of the primroses it brings. In addition we cut back shrubs around the area fence posts in preparation for future post replacement. The day was led by Rob Pennington of Kent Wildlife Trust with Peter, Paul, Ray, Lol and Phil assisting and despite getting wet due to the late onset of heavy rain we got quite a lot done for one day. Well done everyone!

A Rainham Community Awards presentation evening was held at St. Margaret’s Church, Rainham on Saturday evening 26 September. BWAG had been nominated in the ‘Wild About Rainham’ category of the programme. Esther Huxstep and Peter Fleming attended to represent BWAG.
Two groups were awarded prizes in that category:
1. Bredhurst Woodland Action Group - for the transformation of Bredhurst Woodland, the fundraising and local participation
2. John and Liz Pell for the amazing monitoring of birds and wildlife throughout Rainham and the surrounding areas.
John and Liz are members of BWAG but monitor birds and wildlife independently.
BWAG is incredibly grateful to the judges for giving us the consideration and rewarding us with this award.
It is a tribute to the challenging work put into maintaining the woodlands by our members directed by Kent Wildlife Trust.

BWAG Club Night Wednesday 16 September; our first club night after the August recess saw a very interesting and entertaining presentation given by Andre Farrar. He spoke in detail of the Godmersham Park House, original home of Jane Austin’s brother and the variety of wildlife to be seen in that vicinity, in particular the bird life. The evening was well attended with ample time for questions and chatting over tea and coffee afterwards. Thank you Andre.
