When you think of the WI, many of you might think of cake! So it was with great delight that our speaker for this year’s annual event was Emma Jayne Cake Design, an internationally acclaimed cake artist extraordinaire.
Emma Jayne shared her inspirational story of how she got into cake art. If you don’t know Emma Jayne, you may have seen some of her incredible creations, such as War Horse. She has exhibited her work around the world and had the privilege of making cakes for Royalty…..and it all started with making birthday cakes for her family.
It was fascinating to hear how she went from being a mum and carer, to developing her homemade cakes into a small business, expanding into wedding cakes, then onto teaching and exhibiting her remarkable creations worldwide. She is now involved with Cake International the largest cake exhibition in the world.
Emma Jayne brought some of the amazing cakes along for us to see which she has created for exhibitions and her students.
A huge thank you to Aberhonddu Angels Women’s Institute for hosting the event as part of their Sarasani group. Fiona Morgan, Chair of Aberhonddu Angels, opened the evening, Sue Brooks from Llanfrynach & Cantref WI gave the Omnibus Vote of Thanks, and Iona Roberts, Chair of PBFWI, closed the event with a little other business.
Thank you to all the ladies who helped bring the event together and, of course, to everyone who brought along the homemade cakes, which were enjoyed by all at the end!
Emma Jayne’s next creation can be seen at Cake International in Birmingham, 6/8 November, where she will be creating a very special lifesize William and Cake… I mean Kate! 🤣
