This small lively arts charity, based in rural Angus, works to encourage creative expression and freedom across the arts using many and various artforms in often surprising ways to achieve results beyond peoples expectations. These workshops and events are for all ages and abilities. Workshops have also been developed with specific challenges in mind . One of Angus Arts ongoing projects called But
terfly Moon, uses theatre arts, drama and puppetry to offer ways to discover, create and present characters and their stories in a playful and supportive environment. This project is for people with learning disabilities, carers and social care students. ( See photos of Summer Schools 2010 & 2011, various workshops with Angus College students.) Angus Arts have also brought their expertise in this area of theatre arts to schools, working in both main stream school and in specialist units within schools. These school projects are developed over a series of workshops and they may result in a short informal presentation or a more fully developed piece. (See photos of APP (Aberdeenshire Puppetry Project) at Banchory Primary, Inverbervie Primary School and St. Cyrus Primary.Work in specialist units includes Lochside Primary, Ladyloan Primary, Laurenckirk Primary and Carronhill Primary.) Travelling further afield Angus Arts has had the opportunity to reach people in other communities as far afield as Craigmillar Arts in Edinburgh to the south and to Peterhead Primary in the north. Angus Arts also acts as a venue for shows, music and events. Every year, at Easter, Angus Arts holds a Puppet Festival bringing professional touring puppet theatre companies and puppet making workshops to this rural corner of Scotland. This is a part of the national puppet festival run by Puppet Animation Scotland. Other events have included a wonderful day and a half children, teachers and librarians spent with Michael Morpurgo in 2004 when he had just become Children's Laureate. "The stage had become my bedroom! Here was the bed I lie on to write... A real joy to be at Angus Arts." Michael Morpurgo. Hebrides Ensemble have been regualr visitors to the enthusiasm of audience members "Thank you for the privilege of hearing such imaginative work." "Wonderful, just wonderful!"
A festival of Cuban music and dance was a fantastic hit and the rich musicality and thrilling energy of the band Moishe's Bagel was enjoyed more than once in by appreciative audiences.
