Conquering invaders over millennia had a well defined method for colonising a people. Erase their memory. Generation by generation. Until any importance of identity and uniqueness is eradicated. Then the point is reached where the present generation are busy living in the present and thinking of a future. They do not see why their past should be protected. They possibly don't even know that past existed! It has happened to Scotland. Two sites of national importance have been targetted for building works by developers who couldn't care less. Culloden was the last battle on British soil and effectively annihilated the Jacobites fighting for their Stewart king. Bannockburn is also a battle ground where Robert the Bruce was victorious over the English troops. Robert and his association with William Wallace is ingrained into the Scottish physche. Both were turning points in Scotland's history. Both battles had consequences regarding our independence. The landscape is integral to the experience when in those areas.
Do you think it is a coincidence that these sites are attractive to developers?
