The community hub has been a true example of partnership working. With councillors and MSPs across all parties coming together and agreeing to support a much needed cause. It’s been great to see when different political parties can come together to support local community projects.

Today Edzell woods, and in particular Karen and the community Trust Committee were praised for their achievement in delivering the community hub

Submitted by MSP Mark Simpson and supported by MSPs across the range of political parties we are pleased to see the recognition that the project deserves being highlighted in parliament.

‘That the Parliament congratulates Karen Trail, of Edzell Woods, on her outstanding contribution as a community champion; notes her many years of dedicated service to the Edzell Woods community; recognises her leadership, commitment and determination to help bring the Edzell Woods Community Hub to fruition; acknowledges that she has worked tirelessly, despite significant challenges and obstacles, to realise this important community asset; further acknowledges the considerable effort invested by Karen, and the team of volunteers and supporters who worked alongside her, to make the project a reality; commends the good grace, inclusiveness and collaborative spirit that she has demonstrated throughout the process, welcoming the support and involvement of councillors and representatives from all political parties in pursuit of a shared goal for the benefit of the community; believes that the community hub will provide lasting benefits for residents by strengthening community connections and supporting local activities and wellbeing, and thanks Karen for the positive, enduring and inspirational impact that she has made on Edzell Woods and the wider area.’

The Scottish Parliament examines what the Scottish Government is doing, makes new laws on devolved matters and debates the issues of the day.

Dear Residents

As the community hub reaches its final preparations for opening, with the address being currently registered and final clear up still to take place.

An official open day will soon be announced for all to attend and see what our wonderful hub has to offer.

The community trust committee are set up to run and manage the infrastructure of the estate. As we now focus our attention on the sewage treatment works and drainage system as well as the day to day management of the estate.

We are looking for a sub group/ committee of residents to be created to run the social and resilience events of the estate, ensuring that our community hub is used by the community, for the community.

This is an opportunity for you to get involved in supporting the community hub to be used and run for the purpose it has been asked and set up for.

Update on hard standing/ tennis courts

Good afternoon. As some may have noticed, the community hub build is well underway at the hard standing with the foundations laid and brick work completed. Currently the drains and services are being dug and the main building is being built off site ready to be transported and placed onto its base, after the delay due to weather, progress is being quickly made….

In the background… The committee have had ongoing discussions regarding the Tennis courts for some time. With the fencing and benches falling into disrepair, we had completed some remedial work in and around the area. However, still felt the fencing, benches and poles were not very safe.

We held discussions with the contractor for the community hub, who offered to remove the unsafe parts of the tennis courts, leaving the court and hoops available to be used.

Our future plan is to look at developing the court into a multi use game arena when plans and funding becomes available.

In the mean time. We would like to thank the contractor for providing additional work on a voluntary basis to make the area safe.
