Brechfa Rally 2nd - 3rd May 2026.
Hi all, just an update on the rally event being run by Dyfed Dirt Bike Club. A message is circulating asking people to keep out of the Western side of Brechfa Forest. PyFf have not been asked by NRW to close the car park at Keepers to the public. Apparently there will be a CROW closure in place for the area being used for the rally event so there should be signs up for that area.

Rwy'n e-bostio i roi'r wybodaeth ddiweddaraf am ein gwaith adfer yn dilyn Storm Darragh, a chwythodd goed drosodd dros 650 hectar ar draws de-orllewin Cymru ym mis Rhagfyr 2024.

Mae Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru (CNC) bellach yn gweithredu rhaglen cynaeafu ac ailblannu fesul cam a fydd yn parhau dros y tair i bum mlynedd nesaf i ddelio â difrod y storm.

Cynaeafu ac ailblannu fesul cam
Mae tua 200 hectar o goed wedi'u chwythu gan y gwynt eisoes wedi'u hymgorffori yng ngweithrediadau cynaeafu presennol CNC, tra bod 450 hectar arall wedi'u mapio a'u trefnu ar gyfer adfer fesul cam.

Mae'r rhaglen wedi'i chynllunio'n ofalus i gydbwyso diogelwch, cadwraeth, a sefydlogrwydd y farchnad bren, gan sicrhau bod adferiad yn gynaliadwy ac nad yw'n llethu cadwyni cyflenwi lleol.

Bydd pob ardal yn cael ei chlirio a'i hailblannu, gyda diogelwch, cynaliadwyedd, a diogelu'r amgylchedd yn llywio pob cam o'r rhaglen.

Sesiynau galw heibio
Rydym yn cynnal dwy sesiwn galw heibio i’r cyhoedd ar gyfer unrhyw un sy'n dymuno dysgu mwy am y gwaith adfer yn sgil y storm.

Dydd Iau, 5 Mawrth, 1-5pm, yn Neuadd Pumsaint, SA19 8US - ynghylch cynlluniau ar gyfer Caio a Chwm Rhaeadr

Dydd Gwener, 6 Mawrth, 1-5pm, yn Neuadd Brechfa, SA32 7RA, ynghylch cynlluniau ar gyfer Coedwig Brechfa

Byddem yn croesawu eich cymorth i wneud cynifer o bobl â phosibl yn ymwybodol o'r sesiynau galw heibio hyn ac annog pobl i fynychu.

I'r rhai nad ydynt yn gallu mynychu, mae gennym wybodaeth am bob ardal ar-lein gyda chyfle i bobl godi unrhyw gwestiynau neu roi sylwadau ar y cynlluniau: https://bit.ly/AdferiadYnSgilStormDarragh

Ein timau
Mae ein timau Gweithrediadau Coedwig a Rheoli Tir yn y de-orllewin yn parhau i gydbwyso gwaith adfer coed a chwythwyd drosodd â gwaith rheoli coedwigoedd o ddydd i ddydd ar draws Ystâd Goetir Llywodraeth Cymru, sy’n 10,900 hectar o faint.

Mae ein ffocws yn parhau i fod ar ddiogelwch y cyhoedd, rheoli coedwigoedd yn gynaliadwy, a diogelu cynefinoedd a nodweddion treftadaeth pwysig.

Diolch i chi am eich cefnogaeth barhaus wrth i ni weithio i adfer y coetiroedd hyn. Byddwn yn rhoi'r wybodaeth ddiweddaraf ichi wrth i'r rhaglen fynd yn ei blaen

Friday 6th March. NRW drop in session in Brechfa Church Hall.

I am emailing to provide an update on Natural Resources Wales’ (NRW) long-term programme to recover forests across south-west Wales following the extensive damage caused by Storm Darragh in December 2024.

The storm resulted in over 650 hectares (ha) of windblown trees that particularly affected forests across Carmarthenshire and the surrounding area. We are now progressing with a phased harvesting and replanting programme that will run over the next three to five years.

The recovery programme is designed to balance public safety, environmental protection, and timber market stability, ensuring that windblow recovery is sustainable and does not overwhelm local supply chains or harm sensitive habitats.

Phased harvesting and replanting
Work is now underway to clear damaged areas and planning for restocking. Approximately 200 ha of windblown trees have already been incorporated into NRW’s existing harvesting operations, while a further 450 ha have been mapped and scheduled for phased recovery.

Timings for each site will depend on factors such as weather conditions, conservation surveys, site access, and contractor availability.

Community drop-in sessions
We are holding two community drop-in sessions for residents, community groups and forest users to learn more about our recovery plans and we would welcome your views.

Maps, proposed timescales, and details of environmental considerations will be available, and NRW officers will be on hand to answer questions.

Thursday, 5 March, 1-5pm, at Pumsaint Hall, SA19 8US - covering Caio and Cwm Rhaeadr forests.

Friday, 6 March, 1-5pm, at Brechfa Church Hall, SA32 7RA, covering Brechfa Forest

We would also welcome your support in raising awareness of these sessions and the planned recovery work.

For those unable to attend, we have information on each affected area online with opportunities to submit questions or comments: https://bit.ly/StormDarraghRecovery

Our teams
Our south-west Wales Forest Operations and Land Management teams are coordinating the recovery programme alongside their day‑to‑day responsibilities across the 10,900 ha Welsh Government Woodland Estate.

We are grateful for your continued patience as we undertake this complex and often challenging work.

Our priority is to ensure that our forests remain safe, sustainable, and resilient safeguarding the long-term health of Wales’ forests for future generations.
