This weeks working party!

Making sure the flow is clear and added in a large log to help woth invertabrates and fish!

Now in closed season we are not allowed to do any work within the river without ea approval!

This is at papermill lane suffolk.

We are at a point now where we can start adding structure into the river to support aquatic life.

More to come!

This weeks working party

Clearing a section that has got back logged and filled up woth all sorts. Ready for the summer and help help reduce duckw**d coverage!

Dont forget if you want to be apart of our community on facebook or want to volunteer and help join our facebook group savetherivergipping.

In another reel you can see this area during the summer! Flowing freely plenty of vegetation!

And no duck w**d.

This is the same spot this winter!

As some of the vegetation has died back, you can see the sand bottom, the rocks, the gravel and still some flora in the river!

Fantastic! Vegetation helps oxyginate the water, creates different flow "rythems" and paths! Unfortunatly no fish seen due to the cold weather.

But still pretty wicked to see. The different habitats that have been created through savethegippings works!

Last working party of 2025.

Good day removing a line of reeds to allow the river to start wiggling.

There is a reed bed to the left which will not be removed its just reducing and managing the width of the river.

What a difference savethegipping volunteers have made this year as 2025 comes to an end!

Cutting back fallen wood for silt traps and habitat for fish and invertabrates.

Leaving different shape and sized reeds in the river to create different flow dynamics in the winter and the summer.

Which the enviroment agency has thanked us for and have said how impressed they are with the quality of work

Now have 2.5km of flowing and accessible river!

At claydon picnic site, paper mill lane, sharmford, great blakenham and bramford

What a difference!

Want to volunteer and get your hands dirty in river conservation? Send us a Pm!

Todays working party

We plan on cutting the reeds back here, to help with "rewiggling" the river! This will help create a large slack area during intense water flow and level.

Once we have cut the reeds back, we will introduce woody material, to help with invertabrates, birds and wildlife! This also acts as a silt trap, these help contain silt within a certain area. Which helps with silt dispersal and keeps natural gravel beds from being covered up. Which are valuable for aquatic breeding season.

It looks messy, but the end goal will be incredibly valuable for the rivers structure!

If you like the work we do, why not donate via gofundme or through easy funding to help our work and the development of making the river how it once was

Some more vegetation management you can see how we have made a curve in the reeds rather than a straight line!
This improves the flow, allows reeds to filter the water and leaves habitat for breeding birds and importantly watervoles and small mammals that like to nest in the side of the bank!

Next summer we are hoping to add some woody structure into these reed beds which is important for resting places for wildfowl and for aquatic creatures to hide under!

You can see how dense the reeds are after we've finished!

Fantastic work improving the rivers watercourse.

Reed maintanence earlier this year down at papermill lane in the open season ( from 16th june to 15th march).

No duck w**d, healthy flow, different habitat, lots of vegetation in the water which helps with photosynthesis and creates hiding places for newly hatched fry, water shrimp, invertabrates and many more organisms that inhabit the river!

From claydon picnic site to bramford meadows we will soon enough have a free flowing, diverse section of river thanks to the amazing commitment from our volunteers.

Feel free to join our group - savetherivergipping

There is now 2.5km of usable river thanks to our work.
