With the World Cup starting today, many will be heading to pubs to watch the games. But for some, big sporting events can bring fear.

Domestic abuse increases during tournaments like this, so we've teamed up with Essex Police, Braintree District Council, COMPASS and The Next Chapter to raise awareness with local pubs.

If you’re experiencing abuse, please reach out to us. If it's an emergency, please call 999.

If you’re struggling with your behaviour, support is available for you too. Please contact us.

Join us for a summer of Pride!

Kicking off with Essex Pride in Chelmsford next Saturday, 20 June, you’ll find Eastlight out in our communities at Pride events across Essex this summer – and we’d love to see you there.

From Chelmsford to Colchester and Braintree, our teams will be on hand to welcome you, answer your questions and listen to what matters most to you. Whether you’d like advice, support or simply a friendly chat, our stalls are a safe and welcoming space for everyone.

We’re especially proud to be sponsoring Braintree Pride again this year – and look forward to celebrating with our local communities.

Say hello to our Chief Customer Officer, Dave! 👋

We’re really pleased to welcome Dave Lockerman to Eastlight.

Dave’s all about making sure residents have a great experience, and he’s spent years helping residents to feel happier in their homes.

We’ve already seen more residents feeling satisfied with our services over the past year and Dave is keen to build on that by working closely with our teams to make sure our neighbourhood approach, My Eastlight Team, works as well as it possibly can for you.

He’ll also be focusing on making sure your voice shapes the way we deliver services, so they continue to get better over time.

Dave said: “I’m excited to build on the great work already happening across Eastlight and work alongside colleagues to further strengthen the services residents receive. My focus will be on building consistency, strengthening accountability, and ensuring that resident insight directly shapes how services evolve.”

We’re excited to have Dave on board and can’t wait to see what’s ahead - welcome to the team, Dave! 🎉

Please note: this post mentions bereavement by su***de.

We’re so proud of Senior Neighbourhood Lead, Natalie, for launching a peer support group with a charity close to her heart, Survivors of Bereavement by Su***de (SOBS).

The group is open to anyone over 18 who has been affected by su***de loss and would benefit from meeting others who truly understand. It offers a safe, confidential, and supportive environment to share experiences, listen, and connect without judgement.

Group meets will take place every second Wednesday of the month between 7-9pm, starting this Wednesday, 10 June at Howards Hall, Braintree.

Natalie says: “We are launching this group to support others in Essex who have been bereaved by su***de, a cause that is deeply personal to me, following the loss of my brother-in-law, Michael, in 2022.

“Since then, I have volunteered with SOBS for three years and can see just how vital peer support can be. This group will offer the only dedicated peer-to-peer support network in Essex, providing a safe and understanding space for those navigating similar loss.”

We understand how isolating bereavement by su***de can feel. If this could be helpful to you, a neighbour, or someone in your community, please do share.

We had such a great day at Pygot Place helping residents roll up their sleeves and get stuck into a big declutter!

Together, we filled a huge 14-yard skip and five van loads of waste which is a pretty incredible effort, if you ask us.

It was lovely to see neighbours chatting, working together and keeping the community spirit alive, something we’re really passionate about. One resident even told us they’d never had the chance to take part in something like this before despite living there for 18 years!

What's next? Well, we want to help keep Pygot Place looking it’s best so we’re already following up on actions from the day like sending out friendly letters to support garden upkeep, planning regular check-ins, and making sure we’re on hand to help anyone who needs a bit of extra support.

Massive thank you to everyone who got involved! Could your area do with a tidy up? Let us know where you'd like to see us next.

Pride Month is here – a time to celebrate progress, recognise ongoing challenges and stand together for equality.

At Eastlight, we’re proud to mark the occasion by taking an important step forward in our inclusion journey. We’ve signed up to the LGBTQ+ Housing Pledge – strengthening our commitment to making sure LGBTQIA+ residents feel safe, supported and able to be themselves in their homes and communities.

This is more than a promise. It’s a commitment to listen, learn and take meaningful action.

We are deeply saddened to share that our Chair of the Board, Hattie Llewelyn-Davies, passed away over the weekend.

Hattie was the very heart of Eastlight. She shaped us into the resident-led organisation we are today, championing resident voice and embedding fairness, accessibility and inclusion at the centre of everything we do.

Her impact across housing and health spanned more than five decades. She held senior roles across housing associations and the NHS – helping to transform homelessness services into a more rights-based approach, empowering people to take control of their housing decisions, and strengthening the vital link between good housing and good health.

In the 1970s and 80s, she also played a pivotal role in supporting people facing homelessness – including young gay men who were often isolated and without support – helping them find safety, dignity and hope at a time when it was needed most.

Hattie’s compassion, leadership and lasting legacy will continue to shape our homes, services and communities for years to come. Our thoughts are with her family, friends and everyone she inspired. Rest easy, Hattie.
