World Mitochondrial Disease Week🟢

We’re supporting World Mitochondrial Disease Week by lighting up our Albert Clock Green Today.💚

‘Mito’ as its known, is a genetic energy production illness that can be debilitating and life-limiting, and affects 1 in 5000 across all ages from birth to adulthood.
Today,we’re joining UK charity My Mito Mission in the global campaign to raise much-needed awareness of mito, support those impacted and raise funds for research.

Nourishing Communities Voucher Scheme
Assistant District Governor, Rotarian Juli Thompson CEO at FoodSavers and Inn Churches presented the first year Impact Report for the Voucher Scheme which has been quite a success https://innchurches.co.uk/vouchers/ The food voucher is available by referral only and the Bradford applicants must qualify by either having severe mental health problems, be in food poverty, asylum seeker or a refugee. The programme lasts for 3 months, getting food vouchers every week, and in that time many of the applicants needs are met, for example having cookery lessons, help with managing money, budgeting and advice.

Juli and her team have created a large network of partners who support this initiative including the 21 "pantries" developed by Foodsavers https://foodsavers.org.uk/

On Sunday 6th September team Bronte joined the sponsored Alzheimer walk at Temple Newsam which was organsied by Leeds Rotary Clubs. We had a great time despite the fact that we all got drenched on the walk, then the sun came out when we reached the finish line!!!

Last week we were delighted to induct Salma to the Rotary Club of Bradford Bronte. She gave a heartfelt response to why she wanted to become a member. Salma talked about how it feels so special to become a Rotarian. She also said "Rotarian Sonny opened the door for me and I walked through it. I've have been inspired by Rotarian Saleem, the passion and commitment he has for helping others, which really encouraged me to join."

Salma really looks forward to getting involved and making a difference. It is wonderful for us that you wanted to join our club Salma, a huge welcome to the family of Rotary.
