Results of #41 Bradford Soup
Tonight we had two visitors to the Soup who were previous winners. They came to give an update on how the money they won was put to good use and what had happened to their charities since we had last seen them. Kevin, who had talked about the death of his daughter and how he and his wife had set up the Anja Wilson memorial and the charity CRY, Cardiac Risk in the Young. Also Vicky Founder of Heritage Connections who had pitched for funding for a website for the 1st Heritage Festival in Bradford. It was so interesting to hear about how they were getting on and what had happened in their respective charities.
For Soup we had a pitch from Tanu Patel, Yorkshire Women's Forum based in Manningham Mills and how they have helped women who are are isolated. Now they have found that they can be a safe haven for men and have started to support their well being, and mental health by creating a safe, inclusive comfortable place for them.
Anne Marie talked about her work with Bradford Keighley and Skipton Disability Athletics. She volunteers, fund raises and looks after the well being of the members and also the parents of the club. It is not just about athletics it is a safe space for people to be. She is looking for funding for meals as she is taking a group of competitors to the National Summer Games
Naz talked about Shape UK, supporting young people to get a brighter future and the Bradford Commonwealth Memorial, the first memorial outside of London. It recognises the depth and width of the contribution of those who served in the two great wars. The creation of a Peace Garden is his next project.
The winner - Yorkshire Women's Forum. Everyone gets to take some seed funding away with them. It is more than the money they receive it is about networking and much more. Well done everyone.
