Unite Community members out supporting the Keighley Trades Council and Keighley Together community project today. We were publicising the Together Alliance March on the 28th March in London and promoting hope with the Keighley Together launch on the 23rd April. But most importantly having some great conversations and support from the community.

When people tell us there’s no money for the basic things ordinary people want, like decent housing, affordable energy, healthy food or health and social care the answer is clearly a wealth tax.

The bosses of FTSE 100 companies will have made more money in 2026 before midday today than the average worker will all year [High Pay Centre] 💰

UK bosses will exceed the average annual pay of staff in less than 29 hours of work, with the median salary for FTSE 100 chief executives equating to £1,353.23 an hour.

The High Pay Centre said a decline in union membership has contributed to the widening chasm between CEO and worker pay.

“CEOs are pocketing millions and their pay continues to shoot up much faster than that of their workers. So, let them take note - Unite will not tolerate employers who want one rule for the bosses and another for the workers.” Sharon Graham

Unionising is how workers start levelling the playing field in the face of bosses that hoard profits 📣

Fantastic carol concert from the Unite Brass Band today. It was held in Leeds but people travelled from all over the North East to be there and dressed up for the occasion.
Some photographs of the event below plus sketches from the talented member, Christine Hill! The music was wonderful despite our singing. The refreshments delicious and consumed before I could snap them.
It’s a highlight of the Unite calendar. If you’ve never been before be sure to make it next year.

Today some of Unite Community Bradford Branch members went off to London to send the message that we want a wealth tax from the government and cuts to sanctions not benefits.
Back in Bradford members were setting up the weekly stall in the market and having conversations with the public about what they wanted to see from the budget. A wealth tax was almost universally popular and the suggestion was met with cheers! People hung baubles on our Christmas tree with their wishes about what they would do with £25 billion that could be raised by just a 1% increase in taxes for people with over 4 million pounds. We were pleased that the 2 child benefit cap has been lifted and children lifted out of poverty but we’d still like some more of our Christmas wishes to be granted and a society with far less inequality.
4 hours later and 400 leaflets taken and almost as many conversations having happened we set off home. We’ll be doing it all again at the Peace and Crafts Fair in Saltaire on Saturday. Come and say hello.

Fantastic time in Unity Hall ILP Socialist Institute Nelson last night watching the show “ We are the lions Mr Manager” about the Grunwick strike of 1976 to 1978 led by Jayaben Desai and other Asian women workers. It was a full house and well supported by Unite Community Bradford Branch.
Brilliant performance by Townsend Productions with a standing ovation. That was followed by a rousing speech by our branch secretary who brought us up to the present time talking about the ongoing Birmingham Bin Workers strike. That was followed by a spontaneous crowd singing of “solidarity forever” and a Unite and Bradford trades council collection for the bin workers on the way out! Well done Everyone!

Unite Community Bradford Branch out with many other unions and organisations supporting Airedale Hospital workers today who are demanding fair treatment. Frontline staff, porters, domestics, catering and security workers employed by AGH solutions ( a subsidiary of Airedale NHS Foundation Trust) do not receive the benefits of NHS terms and conditions including NHS pensions, annual leave, proper sick pay or Sunday working enhancements. Over 150 workers will go on strike from 12-15th September to fight for the equality and recognition they deserve. As the GMB rightly says they’re not second class citizens, they’re the backbone of our healthcare system.
Thanks to GMB North East, Yorkshire and Humber for most of the great photos along with a couple taken ourselves.
Please join the picket on Friday 12th September 6-9am and 2-5pm.
