The Thornbury Charity, the operators of The Thornbury Centre, are delighted to receive £19k from the National Lottery funding towards our work in the community.
We are celebrating being awarded £19k in National Lottery funding to support our work in the community of Thornbury and beyond.
Our vision is to revitalise the Thornbury Centre into a hub of community activity through community participatory projects which promote social, economic and environmental wellbeing, and through our ongoing learning and development.
We have recently employed a new Community Worker, Alice, to help facilitate community development and take our projects forward.
Thornbury Community Centre currently runs various community activities during the week such as: Tot’s Group run by local volunteers which attracts women from across the area, Thornbury Community Pantry offering low-cost affordable food shops for residents of BD3 provided through donated produce, and an over 50’s Women’s Craft Group.
In the near future, we hope to build community resilience through opening our Community Library in partnership with Bradford Council, starting a Women’s Gardening and food growing Group to reclaim abandoned green spaces and promote environmental justice from marginalized communities, and connect with other religious groups to facilitate positive interfaith conversations around social transformation.
The National Lottery Community Fund recently launched its strategy, ‘It starts with community’, which will underpin its efforts to distribute at least £4 billion of National Lottery funding by 2030.
As part of this, the fund has four key missions, which are to support communities to come together, be environmentally sustainable, help children and young people thrive and enable people to live healthier lives.
Alice Curtis, Community Worker, says: “I’m really excited to build a presence here and to facilitate community work which uplifts the voices of those who are often ignored. I can’t wait to see what we create together.”
Revd Calum Burke, Chair of Trustees, said: “This funding marks an important step forward in our journey to revitalise The Thornbury Centre. We are delighted to have the support of The National Lottery Community Fund.”
Please follow along for more information and updates and contact the Thornbury Centre to get involved with any upcoming projects.
