📚 BLACK STUDIES IS COMING TO ACAP THIS OCTOBER!

Ask yourself: how much do you really know about Black history, thought, culture and resistance beyond what mainstream education teaches us?

Knowledge shapes how we understand ourselves, our communities and the world around us. Black Studies encourages us to question what we have been taught, ask whose stories have been left out, and discover knowledge that can empower us to see ourselves, our communities and our history differently.

Join us at ACAP for our new 15-week Community Black Studies Course, where we’ll explore everything from African civilisations, slavery and colonialism to Black Britain, Pan-Africanism, Black Marxism, identity, culture, resistance, and much more!

This course is about learning, questioning, discussing and critically exploring Black life, history and the world around us through a Black Studies lens.

🌍 Open to everyone
📖 No prior knowledge required
🗓️ Wednesdays at 5:30PM or Saturdays at 12PM
📍 ACAP, 17 Claremont, Bradford, BD7 1BG
💷 £7 per session or £75 for the full 15-week course

First sessions begin Wednesday 7th October and Saturday 10th October 2026.

Sometimes the strongest thing you can do is start a conversation.

Tomorrow evening, join us for Mind & Mood—a welcoming, culturally relevant mental health workshop where Africans and Caribbeans can come together to talk, listen, learn and support one another.

This isn't a lecture. It's a safe, relaxed space where we'll explore practical ways to improve our mental wellbeing, share experiences and remind each other that it's okay not to be okay.

You'll benefit from:

Meet Kenzie 🇰🇳 (representing St Kitts & Nevis) and Shoaib 🇵🇰 (representing Pakistan)—two members of the ACAP family who never miss an opportunity to bring a little joy to the workplace.

Whether it's through dance, music or laughter, they remind us that community work isn't just about supporting people—it's about creating spaces where people can be themselves.

At ACAP, we celebrate the many cultures that make our team so special. Different backgrounds, shared values and plenty of positive energy! ❤️

Safe to say... they definitely understood the assignment! 😂💃🏾🕺🏽Kenzie facilitates a dance class for girls every Tuesday 4.30-6.00pm, and Shoaib's new dance fusion, Open Flow, is every Friday from 6pm, this class is for men and women.

🧡 Learning, Connecting & Building Anti-Racist Practice 🧡

Today ACAP attended The Phoenix Way: Building Anti-Racist Practices and Systems Workshop, hosted in partnership with Impact Hub Yorkshire and Leeds Trinity University.

It was a powerful and thought-provoking session, bringing people together to explore how we build stronger, fairer and more inclusive systems for our communities.

For ACAP, these spaces are so important. They give us the opportunity to:
✨ Connect with like-minded organisations
✨ Strengthen our anti-racist practice
✨ Share lived experience and community knowledge
✨ Learn from others doing vital work across the region

We left feeling inspired, connected and even more committed to creating positive change for African, Caribbean and racially minoritised communities in Bradford and beyond.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in organising and facilitating such a valuable workshop.

Today, we honour and celebrate the incredible Windrush Generation—the pioneers who travelled to the UK with courage, hope and determination, helping to rebuild the nation and shape the communities we know today.

Their contributions can be seen everywhere:
🏥 In our NHS
🏫 In our schools
🏭 In our industries
🎶 In our music and culture
🤝 In our communities
🏡 In the generations they have inspired

Many faced challenges, discrimination and hardship, yet they continued to build lives, raise families and create opportunities for those who followed.

At ACAP, we recognise that their legacy lives on through the resilience, strength and achievements of our communities. We are proud to continue building on the foundations they laid by supporting education, wellbeing, culture and opportunity for future generations.

💼🌟 Connecting Communities with Opportunities 🌟💼

Today, ACAP attended the Jobs Fair at Laisterdyke Community Centre, joining a fantastic range of organisations committed to helping local people access employment, training and development opportunities. ACAP has been working with adults to help people improve their confidence, clean up their CV, and give them the interview skills they need to go in there and nail that job!

It was great to meet so many community members, hear about their aspirations and connect them with services that can support them on their journey into employment, education and training. We particularly liked the Kings Trust who offer a range of free training courses and empowerment opportunities for anyone serious about finding work.

Pictured are Claudia McFarlane and Erica Jeffrey from ACAP alongside Antonia Adebowale from SkillsHouse, who organised the event and brought together an excellent range of employers, training providers and support organisations under one roof.

A big thank you to Antonia and the SkillsHouse team for organising such a valuable event and creating opportunities for local people to explore their next steps.

At ACAP, we know that employment is about more than just finding a job. It's about:
