๐Ÿ’ผ๐ŸŒŸ Connecting Communities with Opportunities ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ’ผ

Today, ACAP attended the Jobs Fair at Laisterdyke Community Centre, joining a fantastic range of organisations committed to helping local people access employment, training and development opportunities. ACAP has been working with adults to help people improve their confidence, clean up their CV, and give them the interview skills they need to go in there and nail that job!

It was great to meet so many community members, hear about their aspirations and connect them with services that can support them on their journey into employment, education and training. We particularly liked the Kings Trust who offer a range of free training courses and empowerment opportunities for anyone serious about finding work.

Pictured are Claudia McFarlane and Erica Jeffrey from ACAP alongside Antonia Adebowale from SkillsHouse, who organised the event and brought together an excellent range of employers, training providers and support organisations under one roof.

A big thank you to Antonia and the SkillsHouse team for organising such a valuable event and creating opportunities for local people to explore their next steps.

At ACAP, we know that employment is about more than just finding a job. It's about:
โœจ Building confidence
โœจ Developing skills
โœจ Creating opportunities
โœจ Supporting people to reach their full potential

We look forward to continuing to work with partners across Bradford to help create brighter futures for our communities.

๐Ÿ”ฌ๐Ÿค Making Research Work for Communities ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ”ฌ

This week, ACAP was proud to take part in the Community Research Training Programme at the University of Bradford, delivered through a partnership between the Yorkshire & Humber Patient Safety Research Collaboration and the Bradford Mental Health Research Centre.

The training explored how research can become more inclusive, equitable and grounded in the lived experiences of the communities it seeks to serve.
Too often, research is something that is done to communities rather than with them. This programme challenged that approach and explored how community voices can help shape research questions, influence decision-making and improve outcomes for everyone.

The interactive exercises encouraged participants to think about:
๐Ÿ’ก How research ideas develop
๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Whose voices are included (and excluded)
โš–๏ธ Health and safety inequities
๐Ÿ“Š Different approaches to gathering evidence
๐Ÿค Building genuine partnerships between researchers and communities

The activity pictured sparked some fantastic discussion around the research journey, from identifying problems and securing funding through to involving communities, sharing findings and creating meaningful change.

At ACAP, we believe that communities should not simply be participants in researchโ€”they should be partners, co-designers and leaders. We are excited about the opportunities this training will create and look forward to working with researchers to ensure that future studies better reflect the needs, experiences and strengths of our communities.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Talk about feelings and emotions

๐Ÿš€ Turning business Ideas into Action at ACAP ๐Ÿš€

On Thursday 21st May, we hosted another fantastic Social Enterprise Business Development Workshop at ACAP, and what a session it was! ๐Ÿ’ก

People came together to explore:
โœจ Business ideas
๐Ÿ“ˆ How to turn passion into action
๐Ÿ’ฐ Funding and support opportunities
๐Ÿš€ The practical steps to getting started

A huge thank you to Paul, who shared his knowledge, challenged people to think differently and showed that building something of your own is more achievable than many people think.

One of the biggest messages from the evening was this:

๐Ÿ’› You do not have to wait until everything is perfect to start.
Sometimes all you need is an idea, the right support and the confidence to take the first step.

Social enterprises donโ€™t just create income , they also create:
๐ŸŒ Community change
๐Ÿค Local opportunities
๐Ÿ’ก New solutions
โœจ Purpose-driven work

If youโ€™ve ever thought:
โ€œIโ€™d love to work for myselfโ€ฆโ€
โ€œI wish I could turn my idea into somethingโ€ฆโ€
โ€œThis community needs something differentโ€ฆโ€

This could be your sign to explore it ๐Ÿ‘€

Thank you to everyone who attended and brought such brilliant energy and discussion.

Watch this spaceโ€ฆ this definitely wonโ€™t be the last one ๐Ÿ”ฅ

If your child isnโ€™t attending ACAPโ€™s Science Club yetโ€ฆ they are seriously missing out! ๐Ÿ’ก

Our exciting monthly Science Club gives young people aged 8โ€“16 the chance to explore science through:
๐Ÿงช Hands-on experiments
๐Ÿ’ฅ Fun challenges
๐Ÿ” Scientific discovery
๐Ÿš€ Creative learning and problem solving

Pictured is McKenzie, one of our brilliant co-facilitators. By day sheโ€™s a dance instructor and creative youth worker ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿพ โ€” but by night sheโ€™s an avid scientist and proud geek ๐Ÿค“โœจ

McKenzie truly embodies ACAPโ€™s educational ethos and is always excited about planning experiments, inspiring young people and making science fun and accessible for everyone.

Who knowsโ€ฆ the next child through our doors could become:
