St Vincent de Paul Society (England & Wales)

St Vincent de Paul Society (England & Wales) Our mission remains unchanged: offering help and care, person to person. That's the SVP. Since 1833. That’s who we are. The SVP. Every day.

The St Vincent de Paul Society is an international Christian voluntary organisation dedicated to tackling poverty and disadvantage by providing practical assistance to people and families in need, no matter who they are. Whether it's a family struggling to put food on the table, a person experiencing homelessness or a lonely pensioner, we seek and find those in need and create everlasting friendsh

ips. Our 10,000 dedicated members visit the most vulnerable people in local communities across England and Wales and offer them friendship and practical support. The SVP works to tackle poverty and its causes by bringing a blend of services and support to people in need in local communities, whether that support is for an hour or a lifetime. Turning our concern into acts of kindness.

Today on World Refugee Day, we stand in solidarity with refugees and people seeking safety around the world.

Behind every journey is a person, someone with hopes, fears and talents.

As people of Faith, we are called to welcome the stranger, defend human dignity and build communities of compassion and belonging.

We pray for all those forced to flee conflict, persecution and poverty and we give thanks to our volunteers and Community Support Projects who offer hope and support along the way.

Seven members of the SVP1833 young adult community recently joined 30 fellow Vincentians from across Europe in Madrid during the celebrations surrounding Pope Leo’s visit 🇪🇸

A particular highlight was meeting Juan Manuel Buergo Gómez, International President of the Society, and learning how young Vincentians around the world are living out the Gospel through service to prisoners, families and children.

The group attended both the Youth Vigil and the Corpus Christi Mass where Pope Leo encouraged young people to be agents of justice, truth and love, reminding them that “we can change society, and we can do it with love.”

The pilgrimage also included a visit to San Sebastián Church where the first SVP Conference in Spain was founded in 1850. The experience was a powerful reminder that, across different languages, cultures and backgrounds, faith and service unite Vincentians around the world.

As Refugee Week begins, we celebrate the strength, resilience and contributions of refugees and people seeking asylum.

Across England and Wales, we support people in our community centres through friendship, practical help, advice and a welcoming space to belong.

Our members walk alongside individuals and families as they rebuild their lives, offering hope, dignity and human connection.

We also work to create lasting change by speaking up for policies that protect the rights and well-being of refugees and people seeking asylum.

Together we can build communities where everyone is welcomed and valued.

We're delighted to share that the Dentaid mobile dental unit will be visiting St Vincent's Centre, Newcastle this November.

The service will provide vital dental care for people who are unable to access NHS dentistry, helping to address an urgent need to improve health, wellbeing and confidence.

More information about appointments and eligibility will be shared closer to the time, so keep an eye on our channels for updates.

This Volunteers Week, we celebrate all the wonderful volunteers who make the work of the SVP possible. We are grateful for every volunteer; past and present, in the UK and overseas, working in different areas but with the same goal, diverse but united.

Twinning volunteers come together in a global network of charity, providing prayer, financial support and community, working hard to promote unity and alleviate poverty in our diverse world.

We would like to give thanks to all our volunteers at home and overseas. Without them, we could not continue to achieve our Vincentian mission.
