Bradford Youth Players (BYP) BYP run affordable, independent, open-access performing-arts clubs for young people. Our unique club Just turn up!

All of our youth leaders are fully CRB checked, and we have a child protection policy and officer. There is no entry audition or minimum required standard for BYP - all young people are welcome at our youth clubs. **Mike Alred***

Bradford Youth Players was sad to learn of the recent death of Mike Alred.

Mike was a stalwart of the club for three decades, first as a trustee and then, for many years, our Treasurer. Mike supported us through many financial challenges as the club moved from being fully funded by the local authority to becoming a registered charity responsible for raising its own income and paying for staffing, premises and running costs. He worked tirelessly with the local authority and other funders to get financial support, thereby ensuring our continued survival.

Mike oversaw the move from St Mary’s Church to Little Lane, the appointment of trustees and leaders, the administration of the club and kept all the financial records. He personally took on large amounts of responsibility for the running of the club, everything from safeguarding to key-holding, policy writing to ensuring that the heating worked, and all the tasks between. He was an ever-present supporter of BYP and we owe him much.

He sadly lost his beloved wife a few years ago, shortly after handing over the reins of the club to others.

Without doubt BYP owes a great deal to his legacy and we would want to pass on our condolences to his family.
