This Wednesday (26th Aug) is our sixth and final Hop On session for 0–4s and their families — and what a brilliant six sessions it’s been! We’ve loved seeing little ones giving it a go, whether they were finding their feet on two wheels or already a little pro. 💚

A huge thank you to everyone who has joined us at Peel Park, had a go and helped make the sessions such a blast! 🙌

Session six is now fully booked, but if your little one has enjoyed Hop On, they run their own bicycle training sessions across Bradford, for beginners and returning riders. 🚲

📣 We have some exciting news to share 📰. Better Place Bradford have been shortlisted for the BBC Radio Leeds Make a Difference Awards! 🎉

Out of more than 350 entries, we’re one of just four finalists in the Environmental category — which feels like a huge recognition of the work we do alongside local families and communities to make Bradford’s outdoor spaces greener, healthier and better places to be. 💚

We’ve been invited to the awards ceremony at the Royal Armouries in Leeds on Saturday 12 September, where we’ll find out who takes home the award! 🏆

And before then, you can hear us on the BBC Leeds Breakfast show on Wednesday 26 August, sometime between 7.15am and 7.45am, chatting to Gayle Lofthouse about Better Place and the work we do.

We’re over the moon to have made the shortlist — and whatever happens on the night, it’s lovely to have the work of our team, partners and local families recognised. 🌱

Urban Ranger Diary 29/07/26 – The brushes and brooms were out in full force at Peel Park Natural Play Area, as I had seven little volunteers helping me during a recent visit. It was a real team effort, and we had to keep swapping tools, so everyone got a go at sweeping sand back into the spider sandpit, gathering up litter, levelling the sand and removing any sticks and pinecones. Note to self: bring more little brushes next time! 🧹

There’s something brilliant about seeing children wanting to join in and help look after their local play spaces. These little helpers did a fantastic job, and definitely deserve their Junior Urban Ranger badges! 💚🧽

Over the last few weeks we've loved spending time at Attock Park with local families during our Grow with Maryam sessions. 🌼💚

From splashing in the paddling pool and getting creative decorating flower baskets, to exploring toys on the toddler play blanket and simply enjoying time outdoors together, it's been wonderful to see so many little ones learning, playing and making new friends.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us over these sessions. Your smiles, laughter and enthusiasm made each week special, and we hope you enjoyed them as much as we did.

Urban Ranger Diary 21/07/26 - A huge thanks to my three little volunteers on Tuesday. After some birds left the purple play surface at the Mayfield Centre Pocket Park looking a little unsightly, we set about giving it a good clean, armed with hard brushes, long handled wire brushes and buckets of warm soapy water.

What was the best bit? Definitely tipping out the buckets of water and watching the bubbles disperse 😄💦.

The swings, slide, benches and shelters all got a freshen up too.

Helping to care for shared spaces is a great way for children to feel proud of the places they play, and these three certainly earned their "Junior Urban Ranger" badges today! 💚🧽
