In this important year as Bradford celebrates becoming the UK's City of Culture, I would like to launch my Lord Mayor’s Appeal 2024-25 which is called “The Lord Mayor’s Ambiti
on Academy”, This is aimed at supporting those wishing to work in the creative industries by helping them to access grants through funding raised by the appeal. I have spent 40 years as a community worker, and I would like my new project to ensure children and young adults can "fly high". Following a series of fundraising events and donations, grants will be made available to individuals, schools, and community groups within the Bradford district to help those who need a helping hand as they take that first step on the road to success. I believe in the talent of our young people across the area, whilst also realising that a lack of opportunity or self-belief is often a barrier to fulfilling their aspirations. In what will be a momentous year for Bradford, I hope that at the end of my term I can have made a difference to the young people of this great City and district, through the distribution of these small cash awards, which I hope will give a boost to the recipients and be a cause for real celebration. If, for any reason, there are any surplus funds remaining, these will be donated to Bronte Birthplace Limited, a community benefit society established under the Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014, company number RS009088. I sincerely hope that the generous citizens of Bradford will be able to support my appeal either by making a donation or hosting a fundraising event.
