YCR hand reared kitten who survived against all the odds, he died at a year and a half old but in his short life he had a huge impact on many peoples lives, his page continues in his memory with the rest of his furry family and his mums foster kittens ❤️

I’m really struggling emotionally at the moment, I think this may have been the worst week in my time at YCR……

These are the ashes of just some of the kittens we’ve lost 💔

I can’t tell you how horrific it is to have to agree their put to sleep, mark our babies as deceased on the system, wipe their names off the kitten house boards and then see their ashes come back to us 💔

In the last week and a half, I have had to authorise 18 put to sleeps 💔💔 💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔

1 of those kittens stopped breathing in my car on the way to the vets.

All but 1 have been parvo related so I have been unable to stay with them to see them over the bridge.

Today we said goodbye to one of our old girls 💔 her body began to shut down. I was with her until the end and it was time, she looked me in the eye and I knew 💔

I can’t even put into words how horrific I feel, I then have to share the news with the whole team and devastate them, some are on days off or holiday or in red zones so I can’t even hug them to support them.

I have never in my career or volunteering at YCR seen anything as horrific as this strain or parvo! Even our vets are shocked at how quickly it’s taking them from us.

The only comfort I have is that it’s contained and not moved areas, so we are making a difference.

Speaking to one of our vets today, he said he has vet friends in the south and they are seeing the same thing, this mutation of parvo is relentless, it kills before they can even give support, in 4-8 hours from symptoms 💔💔

We will beat this and I will keep going, but the truth is, right now I’m broken more than I’ve ever been.

I desperately need Pete to come home, I’m glad he doesn’t do social media so he will never see this post. I know he already feels completely helpless and guilty that he’s not at home supporting me.
I’ve never needed him to throw his arms round me more than I do right now 😭💔

Until that can happen I’ll hug my babies tighter and pray that this nightmare ends soon 😕💔

Zeke Update

Sunshine Update

A little bit of nice news is Sunshine has settled in and is so happy. We are all absolutely in love with her. She loves to be wherever we are, she likes to knock on my daughters bedroom door when she wants to go in. Her favourite place is in any of our beds 🥰 I’ve never known a cat who gives as many kisses as she does.
She just warms our hearts. I hope this brings a little bit of joy to you in what is such an awful time x

Well what a weekend ……. I said goodbye to both of my foster babies, feeling incredibly proud but also upset.

I met both family’s and honestly they are perfect for each of them.

The updates we’ve had already fill my heart with love and joy ❤️ so thank you to their new family’s for letting me know how they are doing and settling in straight away……

Unfortunately we had the very worst weekend possible and I’m guessing you know this from my silence on here.

On Saturday a kitten died in my car on the way to the vets while I tried to keep his heart going 💔

On Sunday we had multiple losses and the end of the day was finished rushing a positive kitten to the vets for intensive care support 💔

My heart feels like it’s been ripped out and stamped on at the moment. Yesterday I felt completely defeated as did the rest of the team 😕

But today we’ve brushed ourselves down and continued to move things forward.

I always tell the team it’s okay to feel like this and it’s completely normal with the stress and pressure we all feel having the responsibility for so many little lives.

Some days we need to let ourselves have that time, as long as we can pick ourselves back up to continue and not stay in that place. After all we have a centre full of cats depending on us so we have to be able to function.

This is the very worst strain of PV I have ever seen and multiple vets have confirmed it’s very different this year and so much more dangerous as they are not getting the chance to support the sick kittens before their body’s become too weak.

It’s tough, tougher than last year! But we are stronger and we will continue to find ways to help prevent the spread of it when we contract it at our centre!

❤️😭 PROUD MAMA 😭❤️

My goodness me this weekends absolutely killing me!!

But look at her!!!!! Happy, healthy and loving life!

The amount of times I genuinely thought we were going to lose her 💔😭 it’s definitely been a rollercoaster of emotions ride with this little girl!!!

She really is sunshine on a rainy day!
So small but with the biggest personality!!! She’s definitely a handful, but I love that she’s completely bomb proof!

This little girl really did get into Daddy Pete’s heart and I know he will miss her so much, but he said last night he was so proud of the start we give these babies when they need that extra bit of care to keep them going.

I love that he loves fostering, YCR and everything we do as much as I do, I couldn’t do this without him! He’s my absolute rock and a huge part of every kittens life at Spud Towers!

Sunny is one of the hardest kittens he’s had to give up and I knew he was smitten with her.

She’s definitely taking a piece of both our hearts with her today ❤️

And so our time together comes to an end 💔😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Every Spud Towers Baby is special, but Zeke and Sunshine have been harder than most!

I remember waking up every hour checking on Zelda after her operation, worrying that she would get an infection…… falling asleep in bed with her on my shoulder …… and waking up hours later to her snoring in my ear…..

And now she’s this gorgeous handsome boy, that’s all grown up!

Just look how stunning he is!!!

We considered homing him and Sunny together but as much as they play together they are very independent of each other and do like to be on their own or with the other cats.

Bonded pairs tend to do everything together including sleeping and they don’t.

So I made the decision to let fate decide for them.

Zeke is going to one of our followers on the page ❤️ so we will get updates and will be leaving us tomorrow to start his new life.

Sunshine is going to a lovely family and her new mummy is a nurse ❤️ and I think she’s going on Sunday ……

I’ve already cried…… I’ll cry again tomorrow and on Sunday!

I put my heart and soul into every kitten we raise and they take a piece of me with them when they leave.

Our jobs done now, I’m so proud of what we do as fosterers, giving these and every other cat and kitten the chance to have a wonderful life when it’s time. Helping them overcome obstacles and watching them grow, sometimes not knowing if they will survive like these two, but giving them every bit of love you can anyway.

It’s an absolute honour to be a foster mama and every time we say goodbye, it means we did it! And then the door is open for another baby that needs our help.

Pete said goodbye to them both before he left on Tuesday for work 💔

So it’s just my goodbyes and then they will be off ❤️

Apparently I’m going to be on the website later today and so is Zeke …..

Mamas gonna tell everyone what I’m like in my description 😳 I hope she’s not 100% honest 🫣😬

This means we are leaving Spud Towers and it could be as early as this weekend …… I’m very excited to meet my forever family….. whoever they are….. I have very high standards so they better be up to scratch with everything 🤭
