Bradford BEES had the pleasure of working with a group of young people on The Yorkshire Dales National Park Roots to Jobs scheme.

The Roots to Jobs project brings together the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority with students from Bradford College who are studying ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages), to increase green skills, knowledge and confidence, as well as pathways to green careers for young people. Participants are often young people from marginalised communities - particularly Bradford College students with refugee or asylum-seeking backgrounds. The young people now live in Bradford, but some grew up in rural communities, so they already have a good knowledge of working the land.

The group worked on several tasks in our managed woodland such as clearing and edging the pond and creating new wildflower seed beds. A great excuse to get some fresh air, work as a team, picnic in the outdoors and practice their English in a fun and relaxed environment. The group worked very hard on their day managing woodland and the feedback was very positive indeed.

Thanks to the Yorkshire Dales National Park team for inviting us to collaborate on this wonderful project to build skills and introduce young people to jobs in nature.

What a wonderful afternoon in nature we had with our Shaping Spaces All Ages Group for adults.

Our Thursday Shaping Spaces All Ages participants spent a gorgeous, sunny afternoon exploring nature in Goit Stock woods in Harden, Bingley.

We were entertained by dippers and yellow wagtails, caught a glimpse of a heron flying overhead and admired a variety of beautiful wildflowers such as Marsh Marigold and a variety of fern and moss.

We sat to have a drink and a snack, listening to the peaceful sound of one of the waterfalls in the glorious sunshine.

Want to join us to get into nature, connect with others and increase your feelings of wellbeing?

BEES winter tree planting.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our tree planting sessions at Equality for All CIC in Rawdon. Huge thanks as always to our regular Friday volunteers and the fab ESOL students from Bradford College for their sterling work!

We have helped this horse therapy centre to create wildlife corridors and shelter belts around their plots of land.

If anyone would like to help out, we will be planting this Friday 6th and probably Friday 13th Feb. Get in touch via [email protected].

Thank you!
