On Tuesday this week, we were in the library promoting Carelink and the other groups that operate from the Action Point Centre on Temple Row, Keighley. We will also be there on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month. Come along, meet the team, have a friendly chat, and learn about what we do. You never know, you may decide to become a volunteer and change someone's life. ❤️

Hot weather reminder ☀️☀️☀️

With temperatures remaining high, staying hydrated is especially important for older and vulnerable people. If you are visiting an older relative or have a vulnerable friend or neighbour, please check that they have something to drink and perhaps have a cuppa whilst you are there.

PS Some older people may not always feel thirsty, even when they need more fluids.

Every week, an empty chair awaits.

Not in our office... in someone's living room. It’s waiting for someone to pop in for a chat, put the world to rights, debate whether summers were hotter in 1976, whether England will ever win the football World Cup again, or reminisce about what it was like working in one of Keighley’s many mills.

We are looking for a few more volunteer befrienders to fill those chairs 💙

Interested? We would love to hear from you.

As the school holidays begin and families look forward to spending quality time together or ask, "Who’s looking after the kids this week?" please do not forget the elderly relative, neighbour, or friend who might be spending much of the summer alone. They need that visit, phone call, or check in more than ever, especially in the warmer weather. 💙💙🌞🌞

Why not take the children along for a visit? A conversation between generations can bring smiles all round.💙

As a football fan myself, the World Cup is something I really enjoy, I'm fully absorbed in it, much to my wife's dismay. "The grass needs cutting," she says. "Yes, I'll do it after the Iran v Cape Verde game has finished," I reply. 😀

Even the greatest players have teammates who encourage, support, and help them through difficult moments , they need people around them.

Life is very much the same , we all need people on our side. 💙💙

Well, it has been quite a week, with record temperatures making everyone feel hot and uncomfortable. Spare a thought for those who may be affected the most. 🌞😎

Below are Age UK’s and the NHS’s tips for keeping as cool as possible.

Keep blinds or curtains closed during the day, especially on windows facing the sun, to block out heat.

Open windows on opposite sides of the house during cooler periods, such as early morning or late evening, to create cross-ventilation.

Drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration, and continue eating even if you do not feel very hungry. It is best to avoid alcohol.

A damp cloth or a splash of water on the back of your neck can cool you down more effectively than a fan.

Limit the use of ovens and stoves during the hottest parts of the day to help reduce indoor temperatures.

Most medications should be stored below 25°C. Keep them in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.

Yesterday, we attended the Carers Week event at the Airedale Centre. Carers Week is held annually to recognise the incredible contribution of unpaid carers across our communities.

Carers provide vital support to family members, friends, and loved ones who may be living with illness, disability, mental health challenges, or age related needs.

Their dedication and resilience often go unseen, yet they make an enormous difference every single day.

Carers Week is an opportunity to raise awareness of the challenges carers face, highlight the support they provide, and, most importantly, say a heartfelt thank you for everything they do. 💙💙💙
