Yesterday, we attended the Carers Week event at the Airedale Centre. Carers Week is held annually to recognise the incredible contribution of unpaid carers across our communities.

Carers provide vital support to family members, friends, and loved ones who may be living with illness, disability, mental health challenges, or age related needs.

Their dedication and resilience often go unseen, yet they make an enormous difference every single day.

Carers Week is an opportunity to raise awareness of the challenges carers face, highlight the support they provide, and, most importantly, say a heartfelt thank you for everything they do. 💙💙💙

Celebrating our amazing volunteers during Volunteers’ Week

This week, Action Point was delighted to host a special party to celebrate Volunteers' Week and recognise the incredible people who make such a difference in our community.

Our volunteers generously give up their time, skills, and compassion to support others, and we simply couldn’t do what we do without them.

Their dedication helps us provide vital services, bring people together, and make a positive impact every day.

The celebration was a wonderful opportunity to say thank you and acknowledge the hard work, commitment, and kindness shown by all our volunteers throughout the year.

We’ve had a really busy week here at Carellink, with visits, reviews, assessments, and lots of tedious administration. We also had the pleasure of meeting the Parkinson’s group at Keighley Healthy Living on Monday. On Wednesday, we gave a talk to health professionals at Keighley Social Services about the benefits of Befriending, These professionals visit individuals daily who would benefit from our service.
We know how befriending can help improve well-being and confidence, support independence, and provide reassurance to families, carers, and other health professionals.

Today, we celebrate the 100th birthday of Sir David Attenborough, a man who has spent years bringing the beauty of the natural world into our living rooms, in addition to the many other interesting and diverse things that he is responsible for.

His life reminds us that every person has a story worth listening to.

At our befriending charity, we have the privilege of spending time with older people whose lives are filled with remarkable memories, experiences, and wisdom. From tales of wartime childhoods and first loves to adventures, careers, family life, and quiet acts of resilience, their stories matter too.

In a fast-moving world, taking the time to listen can be one of the greatest gifts we give each other.

So today, alongside celebrating David Attenborough’s extraordinary centenary, we also celebrate the older members of our community whose voices, histories, and humanity continue to inspire us every day. ❤️

Hello May and the start of summer! 🌞 Hopefully, this means we can spend more time outdoors with friends and family, more opportunities to connect. It is also International Workers' Day, which is all about recognising the value of what people can do for one another.

Thinking about it, this is precisely what befriending is and what our volunteers do, connecting with the lonely, isolated and vulnerable people in our community and improving their lives.

We thank them all. 💙💙

It was St George’s Day this week 🏴. Did you know that he is also the patron saint of Catalonia, Georgia, Lithuania, Palestine, Portugal, Germany, Greece, Moscow, Istanbul, Genoa, and Venice? He is also celebrated in Bulgaria, Brazil, and Croatia. Unfortunately, he has also become known as the patron saint of some dreadful diseases, but we won’t go into that 😮 (look it up yourself).

People who need our services do not expect anyone to ride in on a horse and slay a fire breathing dragon 🔥🔥 all they need is someone with an hour or so to spare each week to visit them and have a chat; it’s as simple as that.

If you think you would like a volunteer befriender or are interested in becoming a volunteer, please get in touch.

Our next training sessions are on Thursday 30th April from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, and Tuesday 19th from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

We spend so much time waiting for big changes, milestones, breakthroughs, the right moment, but life is mostly made up of the little things, the quiet decisions, the small acts, the ordinary days that don't seem like much at all.

Checking in on someone, stepping outside for some fresh air, taking a breath when things feel heavy, and saying the thing you've been putting off.

None of it seems significant on its own, but all of it adds up. These moments shape who we are and how we feel, they all count more than we realise.💙

Well.... how windy has it been! 💨 Bins deciding to go for a wander , garden furniture is trying to take off, and the walk from the car to the house felt like a gym workout.
Bad weather can be really challenging for some people, especially older neighbours , those with mobility issues, or anyone who might be a bit isolated. If you can, please keep an eye out for the people around you. Communities are strongest when we look after one another.💙
