Otley Pub Walkers

Otley Pub Walkers Walking group with a love of pubs. We put on fun events - some with fancy dress - and organise social walks to pubs in Otley and the surrounding countryside.

HEY PUNKS! Sadly, the Punk Parade that we advertised recently to take place on Sunday, July 12th has had to be cancelled! Everyone who booked through Eventbrite has been contacted and informed individually. If you were hoping to join but hadn't yet got round to booking, please accept the organiser's apologies for any disappointment - and their thanks for your interest. [There will be more walks in future, I'm sure.]

Just to reinforce what I said a week ago about rain not stopping play, we managed another couple of wet walks last week [though obviously not many people were convinced!] On Tuesday Rob and I walked to Ilkley via Burley, Audley Clevedon, Ben Rhydding golf course and Cow and Calf. Can anybody tell us what the big nesting box in the tree is for? [Please don't just say 'bird' 😅 or even 'big bird'!🤣] Pub interior photo is The Station, which is a pleasant place to pause if you’re waiting for an X84.

Then on Friday I went with Vicky on the test run for her Horsforth walk in Otley Walking Festival. [That’s all 3 OWF pub walk practices done now. Please join us on one or more of them if you can - and if they aren’t already fully booked!] The alpaca was doing its Marcelo Bielsa impression [“I am not a model”] but they’re gorgeous animals and it’s almost worth joining the walk just to see them! Then there’s a fully waterproof me helping with the dogs in a pumpkin field that changed colour as a tribute to David Hockney when we learned about his death.

There will be more walks soon – not just in OWF – including another trip down the Meanwood Valley Trail from Golden Acre Park into Leeds [with beer(s) at the end]. We’ll give as much notice as possible for that one, as it’s a lovely walk that you might want to join. [Please forgive all the brackets. 😂]

The latest in the series of Otley Pub Club/Otley Pub Walkers themed walks round Otley will be on Sunday July 12th. We'd love you to join us, and if you can please sign up now at https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/otley-punk-parade-tickets-1987769681627?aff=oddtdtcreator so we can make appropriate arrangements with pubs. 4 pubs in town with less than half a mile walking in total, and a quiz on the way [doesn't sound much like anarchy in the UK].

Let's hope as many people as possible can join one or more walks in the festival, and the final event in The Black Horse.

Otley Walking Festival Grand Finale at 4pm on Sunday 5 July will now be held at the Black Horse, 2 Westgate Otley due to the closure of the Fleece. See you there to celebrate the end of another great Otley walking festival.

I know the weather's not been great, but don't let that stop you getting outside! Last week I walked to Guiseley [Thursday], to Golden Acre Park [Friday] and on a practice for the OWF 5 more pubs walk [Saturday]. Got a bit damp now and again but, as usual, felt so refreshed afterwards! [BB]

Discovered a wee carving [of I'm not sure what] up the East Chevin; a yarn bombing [of I'm not sure what] in Bramhope; and a new beermat [celebrating Otley's Charter Day] in The Black Horse. Tomorrow we're off to The Ilkley Brewery Tap via Ben Rhydding and the lower moor, and on Friday to The Three Swords in Horsforth via Yeadon Tarn. Who said this isn't walking weather? 😅

05/06/2026

Next Friday, June 12, there's an OWF practice/risk assessment walk - 'over the hill' to Horsforth. It will leave at 10am from the bottom of Station Road in Otley [by the gym]. So if you wanted to go on the 'official' walk on the 29th but couldn't make it, or you just fancy joining Vicky Parkinson on this one, we'll see you there.

At MUCH shorter notice, there's a similar OWF practice/risk assessment walk tomorrow [Saturday the 6th]. This is for the ‘5 more pubs’ walk, that officially is part of the Walking Festival on Saturday July 4th. If you can’t make that one, and you’re free tomorrow, why not Join Andy FitzGerald at 11am outside The Fleece on Westgate – and never mind the weather!
