Adding connection between our head and arm lines to our advanced dance steps, such as this Renversé will only create more theatre and drama.

I’m a huge lover of the relationship between your chin and wrist when performing classical ballet steps.

It really involves your audience as well which is such a special skill that all dancers can develop.

Renversé is my favourite dance step and has such a powerful and visual effect on stage in particular. Filmed with the Monday Masters students.

Another hugely productive day today at Project Resurgence as we worked on fouettés for over 45 minutes with our intermediate group. It’s so important to over practice in my opinion.

There are many ways to train a fouetté but this method in particular is brilliant for dancers who are struggling with the leg movements.

Taking the arms out of play is a sure fire way to put the emphasis on a single leg strength of the supporting leg and also the Demi grand round de jambe of the working leg.

It’s actually incredibly hard to hold balance and tempo without the arms but it’s massively beneficial for the major muscle function in the legs and core.

Please, if you do practice this, make sure you have plenty of space and others to spot you.

Part 2 coming tomorrow 👍

I love Grand Allegro ❤️ especially when I teach and dance with my Monday Masters at Project Resurgence.

These kids are so talented and hard working, I literally can’t keep up with the energy, passion and enthusiasm.

I know ballet is an art form but there is such athleticism, agility and coordination attached to what we do, to me it’s a sport as well, but a sport performed gracefully with meaning and theatricality to elevate it above a purely objective activity.

It’s why I believe ballet is so much more than powerful than its current state and could be so much more if we make it relatable and accessible to everyone. 💥

Another productive Sunday at Project Resurgence as we work on a lot of new technique & content including this challenging petit allegro for our intermediate group.

It’s full of ballotté, glissade, entrechat and our first ever brisé! 💥it’s super tough but completely worth it!

Small jumps are so much more than a warm up, they are the gateway to every elaborate big jump in dance so it’s vital that we get the fundamentals bang on.

A lot of practice is the only way to accomplish these beautiful but demanding steps, however, I saw so much improvement in such a short space of time today.

Today was all about getting our heads down and training our bodies to absorb exact & accurate technique leading to mastering the many beautiful jumps in classical ballet 👍

The Pre-Associates had a wonderful time this Sunday using a novel way of learning the timing of a Polka! 🤣🤣 The timing of a polka can be very challenging for little brains and the best way to teach it is to associate it with a rhythmic pattern or phrase using the syllables as trigger points.

As Howly was flying the flag for Project Resurgence at CYD in Glasgow, it was the wonderful Lauren who stepped in and delivered this class to our youngest students.

I can safely say they absolutely loved this session and the chorus of ‘Fish & Chips’ resonated through the building, even leaving us all craving a trip to the ‘Chippy’ on the way home! 🤣🤣

Well done to our amazing little ones who behaved impeccably and completed a technique packed class with a bit of fun thrown in for good measure. A big shout out to Lauren for some stellar teaching! 👏👏🤩

This is absolutely one of my favourite training methods for fouetté turns.

It provides the dancer with the opportunity to control their turnout and feel the necessary moving parts that create the perfect fouetté.

This method has helped and is helping many students and I hope you find this really helpful on your journey.

There are so many dancers trying to learn fouettés and so often they are not advanced or strong enough to perform in the centre.

This is to be practiced over a long time at the barre to truly implement the correct control and coordination of this challenging turn.

Just remember to give yourself plenty of space from the barre so you don’t catch the knee on the way round! 😫
