CHILDRENS COMPETITION AT THE VILLAGE SHOW ON SUNDAY

This Sunday is the Wilsden Village Show.
Once again Wilsden in Bloom are sponsoring a category in the Children’s Section which is open to all children up to the age of 13

Instead of a small trophy this year we have put together a big ‘goody bag’ for the winner. 🎁

Here’s what you need to submit for judging by 11am on Sunday morning :

“A PAINTED PEBBLE MAXIMUM SIZE 6 INCHES”
It can be any design and in any medium (paint, chalk, nail polish, felt pen etc)

Your painted pebble should be taken to the village hall, no later than 11am on Sunday morning, where you will be given a form to complete with your name. There is no entry fee for children. As well as our ‘goody bag’ there is prize money for first (£3), second (£2) and third (£1) places. 🥇🥈🥉

The Wilsden in Bloom team have been out working in the village today.
The lavender bed (opposite the New Inn) has had its autumn haircut and the border has been weeded.
The Cenotaph has been weeded. Lots of chickweed and poppy seedlings have popped up after the rain as the ‘before’ photos show. We have left some patches of poppy to see how they develop over the winter. The pots of geranium still have some colour as do the baskets.

Remember when we asked for your old boots ?
Phase 1 has been completed today using the football boots we were given. Planted up with Red & White Dianthus they can be found with a mini pitch & goal at the end of Tweedy Street in front of our lavender bed. It was good to see that some of the school kids spotted it on their way home this afternoon. Fingers crossed for a good result tomorrow evening ⚽️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

The Bloom Team have been out working in the village today. The Village Green has been weeded, tidied and mulched in places. It’s looking good, despite the hot weather. The Cenotaph has been weeded, tidied and watered. The new baskets we put up a few months ago are doing great.

The Wilsden in Bloom team are looking forward to supporting the Wilsden Village Gala this coming Sunday.
The children’s procession starts at 12.30 from the village hall up to the Cricket Field where the fun & games are held (Don’t forget there will be road closures in place for this )
This event is a longstanding piece of Wilsden History and it’s important to keep it going so please come along and show your support. Profits from this event are reinvested back into community projects in the village.

Thank you to everyone who supported our Annual Plant Sale today.
The weather was a bit on the chilly side compared to the heat we had last year which was disappointing.
We hope you all enjoyed the day and the plants you bought.
A big thank you must also go to Julie at New Coley, Dave at Rusted Kingdom and the guys from Wilsden Shedders.

The Bloomers have been working hard this week on the Village Green.
Borders weeded, planted, watered and mulched.
We have also started work on the Crooke Lane triangle.
Don’t forget we have our Annual Plant Sale on Saturday 16th May. 10.30 onwards (until we sell out) at St Matthew’s Church
