Thank you to everyone who supported our Annual Plant Sale today.
The weather was a bit on the chilly side compared to the heat we had last year which was disappointing.
We hope you all enjoyed the day and the plants you bought.
A big thank you must also go to Julie at New Coley, Dave at Rusted Kingdom and the guys from Wilsden Shedders.
Please check out our page in the new Wilsdener Magazine which details where you will find our team next.
New Members are always welcome : our next meeting is Wednesday 27th May 7.30pm at the New Inn

We have also started work on the Crooke Lane triangle.
Don’t forget we have our Annual Plant Sale on Saturday 16th May. 10.30 onwards (until we sell out) at St Matthew’s Church

Can you help us with our latest project

WE NEED YOUR OLD BOOTS

27/02/2026

Residents of Wilsden we need your help with a project we are planning for later this year.
We are looking for old boots - walking boots, football boots etc. any boots except wellies.
They can be any size, kids to adults, and condition doesn’t matter. So if you have an old pair at the back of the cupboard you’ve been meaning to get rid of we would like them.
They can be handed to any of our members including Sue Griffin, Lindsay Horsley, Dawn Collins or handed in at the New Inn where Miguel will pass them on to us.
We look forward to sharing the results with you all 🌸
Thankyou

A very Merry Christmas to all our followers.
We are grateful to everyone that has supported our fundraising events and the volunteers who have joined us throughout 2025.
We will be back working around the village in the New Year and watching for the many Spring bulbs putting in an appearance.
Thankyou
The Wilsden in Bloom team

We were delighted to be awarded a Silver Gilt Medal at the Yorkshire in Bloom awards on Thursday for our work in the village.
The judges comments particularly highlighted :
- The long Lavender Border bringing colour, scent and butterflies
- How well tended and valued the War memorial is and
- The Village Green which is currently being developed with colourful, sustainable planting.
“It was good to meet a group of really dedicated people who are determined to bring out the best in their community”.
Thankyou to all the Bloom Volunteers and supporters - if you would like to join our happy band please PM me.

Great ideas for a shady border.

Cottage-Garden Style Shady Border Planting
A layered mix of perennials and foliage that thrive in part-shade gardens.

1. Joe-Pye W**d – Tall, nectar-rich clusters, late-season pollinator favorite. Zones 4–9
2. Ammi Majus – Airy white umbels, cottage-garden charm. Zones 2–11
3. Hydrangea – Bold blooms that brighten shade. Zones 3–9
4. Salvia – Spikes of purple flowers, bee & butterfly magnet. Zones 4–9
5. Japanese Anemones – Elegant late-summer pink blooms. Zones 4–8
6. Astrantia – Starry, pincushion-like flowers, long bloom time. Zones 4–7
7. Thalictrum (Meadow Rue) – Feathery texture + soft flowers. Zones 5–8
8. Ferns – Lush green structure for shady corners. Zones 3–8
9. Yarrow – Flat clusters of flowers, hardy & pollinator-friendly. Zones 3–9

🌸 This planting balances structure, fragrance, and long-lasting blooms—perfect for shady borders with a soft, romantic feel.
