It's Volunteers' Week! An annual celebration of the amazing contribution of the thousands of people who give their time to make the world a better place! Almost a 3rd of the Adult population in England volunteer each year, which we think is fantastic!

Over 150 people volunteer with Action Point, and we support hundreds more to volunteer in not for profits across the district, so we'd like to say a massive thank you to all the volunteers who support us and make a real difference to our local community.

Thank You!

Another successful day delivering our digital inclusion session!

We received some great feedback and as a result of the session:-

*One participant is now going to buy a tablet device and with support from her daughter, install internet at home.

*One participant is planning to purchase a tablet device for a friend and help her to use it.

*One participant was very reluctant and negative about using a device but after getting familiar with searching locations she had worked and lived in as a young woman, was pleased that she tried the session out.

On the whole, as an introduction to something many had never tried, (or that they had initially felt negative about), we broke down the fears and barriers, paving the way for further exploration and skill learning!

Silverlinkers are now officially Silversurfers!

Today we delivered our first Digital Inclusion Session at Action Point, supporting service users to navigate the internet using the tablets we bought with our Digital Inclusion Grant from Bradford Council (Thank you CBMDC!).

Everyone was really interested in using the devices, doing various things such as searching their their old haunts, looking up places of interest and playing games.

Digital exclusion is a massive issue for many people in our community; with online appointment systems, digital banking and online accounts being required for most things.

Of course, we will always argue the case to keep non-digital options for those who need it, but we are also committed to bridging the gap where we can - and this is just the start!

Huge thanks to our resident 'digital wizard' Andy Sheppard who secured the funding and has developed and delivered the session for our older people's group! Watch this space for more updates!

We’ve had a really busy week here at Carellink, with visits, reviews, assessments, and lots of tedious administration. We also had the pleasure of meeting the Parkinson’s group at Keighley Healthy Living on Monday. On Wednesday, we gave a talk to health professionals at Keighley Social Services about the benefits of Befriending, These professionals visit individuals daily who would benefit from our service.
We know how befriending can help improve well-being and confidence, support independence, and provide reassurance to families, carers, and other health professionals.

If you feel that you, or someone you know, could benefit from our service, please get in touch.
