🌴✨ JUNE IS WINDRUSH MONTH ✨🌴
This month we proudly celebrate and honour the incredible legacy of the Windrush Generation – the men, women and families who journeyed from the Caribbean to Britain and helped shape the communities we know and love today.
In Bradford, the contribution of the Windrush Generation can be seen everywhere. From our healthcare services, transport networks, education system and local businesses, to our music, food, faith communities, culture and community organisations, their impact continues to enrich our city every day.
Windrush is more than a moment in history. It is a story of courage, sacrifice, resilience and hope. It is a reminder of the challenges faced, the barriers overcome, and the generations that have continued to build upon that legacy.
As we celebrate throughout June, let us take time to:
🌺 Honour those who came before us.
🌺 Share stories and memories.
🌺 Recognise the contributions of African-Caribbean communities.
🌺 Celebrate the diversity that strengthens Bradford.
🌺 Inspire future generations to continue building vibrant, inclusive communities.
From the Caribbean to Yorkshire, from Windrush to Bradford – thank you to all those whose journeys helped shape our city.
The Bradford West Indian Community Centre remains committed to preserving this heritage, celebrating our culture, and creating opportunities for future generations to thrive.
📖 Do you have a family Windrush story, memory, photograph, or connection to Bradford? We'd love to hear from you. Please share your stories in the comments and help us celebrate the people whose courage and determination helped build the Bradford we know today.
