Binfield Badgers Berkshire

Binfield Badgers Berkshire Binfield Badger Group is a registered UK charity (number: 1075886) dedicated to protecting badgers in Berkshire.

The Group is a member of the Badger Trust (www.badger.org.uk) and works to improve the protection of badgers, not just in Binfield, but across Berkshire. It is only a simple page, but on our web site you will find links to many sites that contain lots of information on badgers, their need for protection and what you can do to help. We are against the bovine TB badger cull and our web site has more background and information on how you can support us.

So many threats to our declining hedgehog population, but badgers aren’t even in the top 6. 🦡 🦔

There is a big misconception that badgers predate hedgehogs as a main part of their diet and are a factor in the loss of hedgehogs across England and Wales.

This is false.

The British Hedgehog Preservation Society have mapped out their new strategy to tackle the 6 key threats to hedgehogs. None of which are badgers.

The key threats identified are:

🦔Decrease in the availability and distribution of natural food and associated habitat
🦔Increased vehicle collisions
🦔Unintentional mortality and stress due to human intervention
🦔Accidental death and misadventure
🦔Toxin accumulation
🦔Genetic isolation

You can read more on the British Hedgehog Preservation Society website as well as on our website.

Roll up, roll up!! 🦡 🦡

Please join us at our Public Meeting and AGM on WEDNESDAY, 8th APRIL 2026 -
7.00 for 7.30 PM at the BINFIELD MEMORIAL HALL, Terrace Road South, Binfield RG42 4DS

We’ll start the evening by showing a short, inspiring film ‘Heal The Land’, which follows the beginning of a Rewilding journey as the English charity HEAL establishes its blueprint site for nature recovery on a former Somerset dairy farm.

This will be followed by an update on our 2025 activities and our plans for the next 12 months, plus a raffle and refreshments.

All are welcome!! 🦡 🦡

Please keep your dogs away from badger setts - and be on the look out for signs of emerging badger cubs 🦡

We are seeing an unprecedented number of badger cubs being found alone out in the open.

In some cases we don’t yet know how these tiny babies ended up outside their setts, but we do know that some have been taken from their homes by dogs.

Please keep your dog on a lead near badger setts. It is especially important at this time of year when cubs’ eyes and ears are still closed and they are entirely dependent on their mother for survival.

If you witness an incident or find a cub, please contact your local badger group immediately. You can find your nearest affiliated group on our website:

A huge thank you to the incredible badger groups across England and Wales. Because of your dedication, these cubs have a chance to survive and return safely to the wild. 🦡

Urgent Call to Action from Badger Trust. Letters to your MP's need to be done today or tomorrow.

Amendment 130 Statement

Badger Trust Calls on MPs to Support Amendment 130 to the Planning and Infrastructure Bill

Support Amendment 130 to protect badgers, uphold species licensing, and ensure responsible, evidence-based environmental planning.

Badger Trust urgently calls on all MPs to support Amendment 130 to the Planning & Infrastructure Bill. This amendment is critical to protect badgers and other wildlife, uphold species licensing, and ensure responsible, evidence-based environmental planning.

What’s at Stake

Without Amendment 130, developers would no longer need to carry out pre-development ecological surveys, and the Protection of Badgers Act would be weakened, allowing badgers to be killed in accordance with DEFRA guidance, in practice, by contracted shooters paid by developers.

Why Amendment 130 Matters

Amendment 130 ensures that Environmental Delivery Plans (EDPs) and the Nature Recovery Fund (NRF) are used for landscape-scale, evidence-based challenges, not for licensing harm to individual species.

We urge MPs to support Amendment 130 in full to prevent unnecessary harm to wildlife and ensure communities are not faced with paid shooters targeting badgers in their neighbourhoods.

Support Amendment 130. Protect badgers. Protect the law. Protect nature.

Subject: Support Amendment 130 to Protect Badgers and Wildlife

Dear [MP Name],

I am writing to urge you to support Amendment 130 to the Planning and Infrastructure Bill.

Without this amendment, the Bill removes the requirement for developers to carry out pre-development ecological surveys and weakens the Protection of Badgers Act, allowing badgers to be killed, in practice, by contracted shooters funded by developers. Other protected species, from hedgehogs to water voles, are also at risk.

Police officers serving on the Wildlife LINK Wildlife Crime Group have raised concerns that the Bill would make enforcing wildlife crime more difficult and increase the financial incentives for illegal activity.

Amendment 130 is crucial to ensure that Environmental Delivery Plans (EDPs) and the Nature Recovery Fund (NRF) are used only for landscape-scale, evidence-based challenges, not for licensing impacts on individual, legally protected species.
Passing it will:

• Maintain a responsible and legally sound planning system;

• Support sustainable development and investor confidence; and

• Safeguard wildlife and restore our natural environment.

Please support Amendment 130 in full to protect badgers, uphold the law, and prevent unnecessary harm to wildlife in your constituency.

Thank you for your urgent attention to this matter.
