Amendment 130 Statement
Badger Trust Calls on MPs to Support Amendment 130 to the Planning and Infrastructure Bill
Support Amendment 130 to protect badgers, uphold species licensing, and ensure responsible, evidence-based environmental planning.
Badger Trust urgently calls on all MPs to support Amendment 130 to the Planning & Infrastructure Bill. This amendment is critical to protect badgers and other wildlife, uphold species licensing, and ensure responsible, evidence-based environmental planning.
What’s at Stake
Without Amendment 130, developers would no longer need to carry out pre-development ecological surveys, and the Protection of Badgers Act would be weakened, allowing badgers to be killed in accordance with DEFRA guidance, in practice, by contracted shooters paid by developers.
Why Amendment 130 Matters
Amendment 130 ensures that Environmental Delivery Plans (EDPs) and the Nature Recovery Fund (NRF) are used for landscape-scale, evidence-based challenges, not for licensing harm to individual species.
We urge MPs to support Amendment 130 in full to prevent unnecessary harm to wildlife and ensure communities are not faced with paid shooters targeting badgers in their neighbourhoods.
Support Amendment 130. Protect badgers. Protect the law. Protect nature.

Subject: Support Amendment 130 to Protect Badgers and Wildlife
Dear [MP Name],
I am writing to urge you to support Amendment 130 to the Planning and Infrastructure Bill.
Without this amendment, the Bill removes the requirement for developers to carry out pre-development ecological surveys and weakens the Protection of Badgers Act, allowing badgers to be killed, in practice, by contracted shooters funded by developers. Other protected species, from hedgehogs to water voles, are also at risk.
Police officers serving on the Wildlife LINK Wildlife Crime Group have raised concerns that the Bill would make enforcing wildlife crime more difficult and increase the financial incentives for illegal activity.
Amendment 130 is crucial to ensure that Environmental Delivery Plans (EDPs) and the Nature Recovery Fund (NRF) are used only for landscape-scale, evidence-based challenges, not for licensing impacts on individual, legally protected species.
Passing it will:
• Maintain a responsible and legally sound planning system;
• Support sustainable development and investor confidence; and
• Safeguard wildlife and restore our natural environment.
Please support Amendment 130 in full to protect badgers, uphold the law, and prevent unnecessary harm to wildlife in your constituency.
Thank you for your urgent attention to this matter.
