Reform UK Bracknell... Stop rewriting history to fit your narrative.

For 26 years (1998–2023) Bracknell Forest was run by Conservative councillors who delivered stable, prudent, high-performing local government.

We did not leave behind a broken council. We left one of the strongest-performing unitary authorities in the country... with rock-solid finances, major regeneration delivered, high-performing services, and council tax consistently kept among the lowest 10% of any unitary authority in England.

✅ Consistent budget delivery, year after year
✅ Healthy reserves built up and maintained
✅ Council tax kept genuinely low while still protecting frontline services

Guess what... this wasn’t by accident. It was the result of careful financial management, living within our means, and always putting Bracknell Forest residents first.

We are proud of Bracknell’s record and we will be fighting hard in 2027 to win back control, so we can once again offer residents responsible finances, low taxes and strong delivery for everyone.

So let me get this straight.

The UK government spent years telling the public that sanctions on Russian oil were morally essential because Putin’s war machine had to be starved of cash.

Now, the moment fuel prices wobble and geopolitical pressure rises, they’ve quietly created a waiver allowing Russian crude to keep entering the UK indirectly via third countries.

Apparently Russian oil magically becomes acceptable once it’s refined somewhere else first.

This is pure political theatre. The government gets to claim it’s “standing with Ukraine” while simultaneously keeping the money flowing through a sanctions loophole big enough to sail a tanker through.

If sanctions only apply when they’re economically painless, then they were never really principles - they were PR.

Either Russian oil revenue is funding an aggressive war or it isn’t. You can’t spend years moralising about it and then suddenly decide there’s an exception because Brent crude got expensive.

The reality is simple: this waiver means more Russian-linked oil will come into the UK than would have under the original sanctions plan. Ministers can dress it up as “energy security” all they like, but it’s still a retreat.

And once governments start carving out “temporary” exceptions, those exceptions have a habit of becoming permanent.

Congratulations to Conservative Councillor Graham Birch!

Today, Conservative Cllr Graham Birch was elected Mayor of Sandhurst. Graham has selected Thames Hospice and Walk Once More as his mayoral charities for the year ahead.

Having previously served as Deputy Mayor with respect, dignity and dedication, we know he will bring the same outstanding commitment and integrity to his new role.

We are also delighted to congratulate Cllr Margaret Mossom on her election as Deputy Mayor!

A big thank you to the outgoing Mayor, Cllr Paul Widdowson, for his hard work and dedication during his 12-month term.

Wishing Graham and Margaret every success in their new positions!
