Body Positive Dorset aims to support and empower people living with and affected by HIV in Dorset and surrounding areas, to evaluate and develop services that meet the changing needs of the diverse community. We provide information and education on HIV and other s*xually transmitted infections to encourage testing, early diagnosis and treatment to reduce the onward transmission of infections. We a

re committed to working both individually, and in partnership with others, to achieve these aims. Objectives

To support people living with and affected by HIV in Dorset and surrounding areas and to encourage local community involvement and support. To provide HIV and s*xual health education & awareness programs to the community to encourage testing, early diagnosis and treatment to reduce the onward transmission of infection. To secure funding and generate income to make best use of assets and to develop best practice, policy & procedures. To continue to evaluate services and encourage feedback and to continue to develop services in response to local needs. To continue to challenge stigma, change perceptions and reduce discrimination against minority groups. Vision Statement

Today we’re proud to announce Lord Guy Black of Brentwood as our new Chair of Terrence Higgins Trust.

To mark the moment, Lord Black has penned a strong call to arms in today’s Telegraph: The final push to end the HIV epidemic starts now.

Lord Black, Deputy Chairman of Telegraph Media Group and a Conservative Life Peer, will start his term as Chair in December and joins the Board as trustee this month. He will take over from current chair Jonathan McShane, who joined the Board in 2016.

Lord Black’s three-year term as Chair runs to December 2029, right at the point of success or failure for the government’s commitment to ending new HIV cases in the UK by 2030.

After remembering the death of Terry Higgins on this day in 1982, Lord Black writes: “Today, everything’s changed. Now the government is targeting an end to new HIV cases by 2030 thanks to highly effective ways to prevent, test for and treat the virus. You can take the prevention pill PrEP to protect against HIV, while people living with HIV who are on treatment can’t pass it on to their partners during condomless s*x.

“Ending transmission of a virus without a vaccine or cure would be a monumental achievement and a world first. That challenge is also why I’m proud to be taking over as Chair of Terrence Higgins Trust at the end of the year (in addition to my role as a patron).”

But he warns “this goal isn’t going to be achieved by accident and won’t be easy.” Adding: “The current government must propel us forward and the next – whichever party it is – must finish the job.

“While ensuring no one – regardless of gender, s*xuality, ethnicity or anything else – is left behind. Because we won’t end the epidemic for any of us, unless we end it for all of us.”

We’re delighted to launch our first ever children’s story book which aims to help children who are growing up living with perinatally acquired HIV, to understand their HIV better.

The story is co-created with children and parents and was inspired by their experiences of living with HIV.
